Don't be a jabroni.
Game day again, 7pm start on FDS and ESPN+ for out of market.
Felt like Chevy Chase all day trying to fix the Christmas lights up on the eaves, roof and perimeter of the house, one strand would work but the next one would be out, fix that one and the next one out, then all 110' of lighting went out. Said screw it, it's a 2-3 hour chore to put up the other set not including removing this set - looks like just front yard, window and porch lights this year kids. Bah humbug.
First game of a B2B and first game without Dunno in the lineup in almost 5 years. Line shuffling in full effect, Forsberg to start so I'm assuming Copley tomorrow but you never know with Jill. Lines during practice:
12 11 9
22 55 14
37 15 96
40 79 10
No changes on defense, Malott and Moverare available to check in if necessary. Couple of notes I picked up:
- Kuemper was on the ice taking shots but in a red non contact jersey and didn't practice with the team. Good sign he is out there again and with tomorrow the last game before the holiday break he could be back maybe next week. The Kings have the Kraken tomorrow, Ducks Saturday and Avs on Monday. The Avs game is the one I would expect him back for if he is good to go.
- Jill said he is really interested to see the Turcotte line, he mentioned two hunters in Dexter and Glass Boy with a finisher in Kuzmenko. Until/if the Kings make any more moves (they will IMO) Turcotte is now the defacto 3C and will get his shot to prove he is capable of more. Honestly I would love to see it, motor or not he has been underwhelming as a pro overall.
- Jill also had a talk - again - with Buster about shooting. Specifically mentioned he noticed after the first talk he still passed up shooting opportunities for passes. He didn't say this but I will, he needs to go to the paint. Softest 6'5" 230 pound player I've seen in quite some time
- Jill also added Kuzmenko to this conversation, shoot the puck more. We will see tonight. At some point these players who are not performing needs to step up.
On the BJ front, Kings catch a little break with Werenski out, blocked a shot against Anaheim on Saturday. The BJs have lost 7 of the last 8 and sit dead last in the EC and the only team under .500.
Interesting note is after their last loss on Thursday Werenski spoke up and said at some point the losing has to become unacceptable and it's on the players. He is a respected leader in that locker room and trading for Marchment on Friday was Waddell's response to that to shake up the room. While Holly didn't say that regarding Dunno you have to believe that reverberated in the Kings room as well. Greaves expected to start.
Their PP and PK are not good, especially the PK. The Kings should be able to have some success in that area tonight but then again it's the Kings who not only have the 30th ranked PP but also give up SH goals on the PP. I think in a game like this it will either win it or lose it for them.
Prediction: Kings win 4-3, goals by Buster, Fiala, Doughty and Helenius. This is a game LA should win regardless of the PP but this is the last game for CBJ before they break for Christmas and I expect them to put up a fight.
Let's Go Kings!
