How many games would we win if we had the best offense and defense under Bo as HC right now. Such as....

2008 Offense with our 2009 Defense.

Or think of it opposite, how bad would we be if we had....

2009 Offense with our 2013 Defense.

if we have the 2008 (or even 2012) offense with the 2009 defense we're in the national title.

It's funny how difficult it is to have a team that is really solid on both sides of the football.

If you look across the top 25 currently, Alabama is about the only team that comes to mind.

I've always wondered what the reasoning is behind this. Does one unit kick the shit out of the other unit so bad in practice that it ends up being terrible and full of doubt on gameday?

It's crazy to think about, cuz we had so many issues Offensively that year after Taylor got hurt........but you are right.

If we had Suh on that Defensive unit in 2010, we may have shut out 4 or 5 of the teams on our schedule that year. It is amazing to think that one guy can have that big of an impact.

You know I have the same question, but a theory to go with it. In all honesty I think its better for the defense to look stout in practice. In High school our offense got worked so hard in practice I honestly thought we would have to win games like 10-7 or some shit. However when it translated onto the field our offense would be able to score a shit ton somehow. They could barely ever make 5+ yards in practice...I don't know how our team knew what to do after they got 5+ yards in a game but somehow it all seemed to work out. I know I am talking about high school, which isn't very offense explosive, but still.

It seems as if you have a tough defense in practice the defense you are going up against on Friday would be only easier...if you have a great offense in practice, the defense is going to be tougher on Friday or Saturday...reverse those methods around and the only logical reasoning behind a solid team would be to have a great defense in practice...If your offense is destroying your defense in practice, most likely the other teams offense will do the same, and their defense will be tougher than your teams defense in return.

I now see suh made bo better than vice versa

Without suh in 08-09 bo doesn't make it to 2011 or 2012

Just think if we had suh and David at the same time playing........
Shutout left and right best defense in husker history hands down

Suh crick Allen Martin David hagg Gomes prince Asante dennard
Cot dayum that bones throwing every play!!!!!

Seriously blackshirt... One plus one does in fact equal two. Quite the stroke of brilliance though.

Don't know if the denfense kicks the shit out of the "O" in practice but here's what I've observed in the past.

During the TO tenure for years fans were asking for McBrides head as DC. Then in the early 90's something changed. First we started getting defensive players that were quick off the ball. Not necessarily fast players but those with good to great reaction times. Secondly, the words "tough & mean" suddenly re-apperared in our defensive vocabulary.

When one side of the ball has those traits, I think it tends to rub off on the other side. When Frazier ran the option he was the quickest player to do so (past OR present). Plus during that era we had OL that lietrally ruled college football. "Tough & mean".

So, I'd agree given the right mix of talent if the defense plays well even in practice it makes the offense that much better.

What changed in the early 90's was McBride and a couple of his assistants went down south in the off-season to learn what they were doing. He brought that information back and installed it at Nebraska.

A desire and willingness to change and get better. Imagine that?

This...cannot be said enough.

You don't ever want to see someone in a leadership position who's resistant to (needed) change.

Coaching is also a learning experience. If he is not learning new things the coach goes stagnant. Even T.O. went down to Florida State for their spring practice to learn from them...

Football is an evolving sport things that worked in 2000 don't work now things in 2005 don't work

Gotta keep updating your info way too many assistants that go around stealing and adding ideas to make better offense and defense
Bo still thinks its 09 teams have caught and passed him

I hate to be negative, but somehow Pelini's bad game time decisions would have left Nebraska with two losses even with Suh.
