If there was a DH in the NL, Cohen forks over the extra $$$ and the Mets sign George Springer. JBJ wouldn't have even stood a chance.
I like Springer but his days as CF are limited and at that point he's a corner outfield bat in his 30s, those guys grow on trees.

With the injuries and losses to free agency the Astros have had in their rotation, they had to sign a decent pitcher. Odorizzi has been pretty good when he is healthy and should do well for Houston. It is not likely that he will be their "ace", but he is not a bad option.

Forrest Whitley hurt again, so the Odorizzi signing becomes even more important to the Asterisks.

Not that these guys are what they once were, but surprised to see none of them signed at all: Cole Hamels, Rick Porcello, Edwin Encarnacion, Yasiel Puig, Homer Bailey, Shane Greene, Maikel Franco.

Porcello has been a piñata the last few years.....not sure he gets much interest until some team has injury problems......

Yes. He’s been pretty brutal the last couple years. But SOMEBODY can use him. Maybe even in a bullpen role?? Maybe mixing it up will change his luck. Stranger things have happened. Still only 32 years old.

Hell, he might be better than Garrett Richards this year from what I can see....

Richards stuff looks good, but he can't locate for shit.

I'm guessing he'll figure it out.

My guess would be the bullpen, used in long relief....

Surprised the Pirates haven't come calling. They don't even have enough warm capable bodies to pitch 9 innings in a game.

Tommy John may be in Whitley's near future.

2019 Porcello is still useful for a lot of teams. There's still value in having someone provide 174 innings, even if they're pedestrian.

Dude deserves some credit, he's been pretty damn durable. Made 27+ starts with 160+ innings every year for 11 seasons in a row and didn't miss any starts last year. He's put together a very fine career, though that CYA season looks so out of place. Lol

It isn't likely that Porcello will contribute 174 quality innings to any team this season. He might come in as a guy to pitch 4 or 5 innings in a blowout, but I would not want him to pitch in a tight ballgame right away.

Ahhh...now we see why Puig is unsigned. That one didn’t make any sense to me:

Major League Baseball investigators have interviewed a woman who said free-agent outfielder Yasiel Puig sexually assaulted her in a Staples Center bathroom, but have not taken further steps due to her desire to remain anonymous and are awaiting further evidence to emerge from her lawsuit, an MLB source told ESPN.

With the start of baseball season weeks away, Puig, 30, remains without a job, at least partly because of the allegation, according to a source in one team's front office.

The woman, identified in federal court documents only as Jane Roe, sued Puig last October, saying the former Dodgers outfielder followed her into a bathroom after an October 2018 Lakers game, "pinned her with one arm" to prevent her from leaving, groped her and masturbated in front of her.

The woman did not file a police report. Puig has not been charged with any crime. He denies the allegations in a court filing, which also asks a judge to dismiss the lawsuit.

There's still some interesting free agents left. I feel like there's teams that could use Josh Reddick, Jedd Gyroko, Edwin Encarnacion or Cole Hamels. The latter two are older but they were still productive in 2019. Not sure how much weight you can really put into 2020 performance.

Really hard to believe Encarnacion is still out there. Yeah he wasn't great over 40 something games last year, but the track record....

Aren't the A's legally obligated to sign an aging slugger? They should sign him.

Cespedes is still out there, too. Hard to believe he can’t help anyone.
