I was wondering the status of our players next year. Is CJ the only major free agent? Who are we skeptical about losing to other teams??

That's good to hear, Unfortunately a lot of Yankee fans like to say Elvis will be Derek Jeter's replacement and you don't know who will offer Hamilton a contract after his MVP year and his performance at the home run derby. I hope they keep our position players together and can add a starter to solidify the rotation.

the only other Ranger free agent that i see us re-signing is Michael Gonzalez. he would be the lefty in the bullpen

I actually like Gonzo. I like that he is just a little wild, because you can tell hitters know it and its in the back of their head. I like the fact that he looks a little crazy up there stomping around on the mound and breathing fire staring in at the hitter and catcher. Good lefty to go with Oliver.

I wouldn't pay any attention to the arrogance of Yankee fans. They said the same thing about Jose Reyes this year. Hard to say what Elvis will do because he is one of Boras' players I believe, but I really think he likes playing here. However, if he does go Profar should be ready to step right in by the time that comes around.

I have a feeling Texas will do whatever it takes to keep Hamilton. He is a huge part of this team and I think Hamilton likes playing in Texas. I think he likes the team and the clubhouse. As long as the ownership continues to make improvements on this ball club this team is being set up to be contenders for years down the road, and MVP caliber players like to sign with teams that will continue to be contenders.

I would agree with that. Oliver has once again been serviceable this year, and had some good moments. When he is not being over used he is a good arm to go to occasionally. However, he does have an expiration date on him and no one knows when that really is, and Texas does not want to get caught in another Rhodes type situation.

Anyone see Rhodes is still as bad for St Louis as he was for us?

i would like to see them keep Gonzo and maybe add lefty Javier Lopez or Jeremy Affeldt to our bullpen. with Feliz, Adams, Uehara and Tateyama that would be a great shutdown pen for the 7th, 8th & 9th.

All have a long way to go to prove what their actual value is long term, whether it be due to inconsistency, age, or injuries

Healthy or unhealthy Cruz, Hamilton, or Kinsler

Inconsistency Kinsler, Adams, or Uehara (maybe Cruz)

Age with Young, Torrealba, or Uehara

Giving any of those anything long term could prove a bad investment due to their problems now or poetentially in the future, just gotta be careful and pick the right ones

so do we wait until the last minute on all of them to see how those 3 factors play out?

Scotty... Okay you say "you address some of them now and then some next season".

Which guys listed above would you address now ... tying them up long term?

CJ, Hamilton, Cruz & Kinsler - this off-season & early part of the 2012 season.

Adams - next off-season

I honestly wouldnt be surprised if Cruz gets shopped this winter... as part of a package deal...... (based solely on the fact of his injury woes)

I had a real nifty reply written and I must have launched it into the back of the universe ... cause it's gone.

But bottom line ... I'd wait on Kinsler (can always move Andrus to 2b with Profar at SS). Maybe negotiate early with Hamilton but his durability adds risk. Nah on Cruz ... would let him go to FA. Yes on Adams next off season.

Not what I said, but its going to be a tricky process

Personally I'd say yes to Adams, Napoli, Kinsler and Hamilton (incentive laden on playing time benchmarks)

Yes to Young at a length and price reasonable contract, 3 years at 7 per

I'd probably (at this time) pass on Uehara and Cruz

okay to everything you said except on Cruz. i'd do a 2 or 3 year incentive based contract based on games played

Incentive that he doesn't blow his hamstring out multiple times in the same season?

Problem with incentives based on a player being active to have them vest in a following year (s) ... means you have to rewrite the current agreement ... and then in the judgement year they end up playing hurt without admitting the injury and while in the lineup they play like crap. If the contract period includes games played minimums ... the problem is that if they are injured and out of the lineup you are still stuck with them on the roster ... and I don't think the union would never agree to a contract that would void due to an injury.
