Sucks. I was just reading about him the other day, about his time as the dad on Webster.

He and his wife developed and sold a sitcom to ABC, that they would write and star in it. At the last minute ABC asked if they could add in the Webster kid to the cast as an adopted son, basically copying the popular Diff'rent Strokes. Karras said OK, as long as you don't call the show Webster.

Within weeks ABC changed the name of the show Webster, made the kid the star, forced the scripts to feature him prominently, and made Karras and his wife minor characters. Soured him on show business.

Aw man, he did OK with that. Acting was his 2nd job, after 12 years in the NFL. Shoot, Webster had 6 seasons. That's an entire career in comparison to the thousands who never made it beyond their pilot episodes. ABC just adapted their story to what audiences wanted at the time.
