I believe he took Duke to the Final Four in 1978 and won the 1980 ACC Tournament as an underdog.

from my understanding, the reason he jumped from job to job is because he had more interest in re-building programs than he did of maintaining them over long periods of time.

Bill Foster was a nervous nellie. The pressure of rising to number one in the nation and keeping the program at a higher level seemed to be too much for him. He could recruit though. Jim Spanarkel, Mike Gminski, and Gene Banks, were all his guys.
