Whole chickens, do you prefer the beer can method ( or up right holder)
or do you split them open and smoke them???

Neither. In a smoker whole chicken is easy. Toss it in, wrap after a few hours(maybe pour in some apple juice/beer/pop), finish cooking, take out and eat.

Split.

Upright is OK too, but I'd only do the holder if I was concerned about the space inside the smoker.

Debunking Beer Can Chicken: A Waste of Good Beer, An Inferior Cooking Technique, And Dangerous

Tl;dr and/or inb4 "shut up, nerd", the beer can does nothing for the flavor of cooking the chicken, and may make it easier to get food poisoning.

Yeah I actually don't waste a beer ( there is other things I can do with that beer) I did get the stands for the chickens and I've used the before, but now I've seen posts about this cutting open and smoking them that way, ( which makes sense smoke get a clear shot at the meat...

Fried chicken is the best way.

I just put it in the snooker on a rack breast side down. But I do brine it overnight to add moisture.
Just watch how much smoke you give it, as chicken really absorbs the smoke flavor and it can become overpowering.
It also only takes 3-4 hours to smoke. Use a thermometer and take it out once the bird reached 165 degrees in the though area
