I think if Petit can continue with his relief appearances and spot starts Bochy could reward him with a spot.

Doubt it. Long relievers simply don't make ASGs. If the LR was any good, he would be a 4 or 5.

If Petit cracks the rotation next year, and puts up comparable numbers to at least be a bubble, than, yes, I think he has a shot.

It's waaaaay too early to say - it's going to depend on the players' early 2015 performance, *OF COURSE*. Bochy would NOT pick Pence if he were hitting .225 Apr-July. (If players have similar offensive output for the first half of 2015 as this season) He also would not pick Panik at 2B and snub Anthony Rendon (if Rendon plays 2B next year - he moved to 3B this year). Bochy is a guy who will not play favorites just because he can. If it's kinda close between two players, I wouldn't be surprised if he picks his guy. But I don't expect blatant favoritism and the excluding of guys who are way more talented just to be able to pick your guys.

Marco, I have to LOL on this, you said the same exact thing last year...OF COURSE it's 'too early' to say! My picks could all miss out on the game, I was just putting up a post so we could take wild ass guesses.

Really? It depends on their early 2015 performance? :pound:

Like Marco said, Boch will take as many if his guys as he can, but he will not make a super-reach on anyone.

However, if Giants players are deserving, they will get voted in. We didn't have anyone on the starting squad this year because the team sucked ass at the time, and Silicon Valley crowd was not pumped to stuff the e-ballots. If the Giants win this week, and are in first or competing for first (while not in a nose dive) in June next year, I think it POSSIBLE that we could 5 or 6 players voted in. And I am not exaggerating. The vote in '13 was stupid and showed what the Bay Area can do to that voting process if they are excited for it.

Yes of course. I was just trying to see who we think will have good first halves next year...and if someone is borderline Bochy gets to be the tiebreaker.

I see what you did there...

It's a nice thought but after the Zito and Lincecum contracts I doubt the FO will pay market rate for ace-like pitchers for a long time. We ain't getting him.

If they spend money on starters (they kind of have to with only 3 reliable arms set for 2015) it will be on Peavy (a lock IMO) and maybe Vogelsong.

Cafardo On Moore, Cespedes, Markakis, Giants ? MLB Trade Rumors

I don't put a lot of weight in this, but MLBTRADERUMORS says we will not sign Vogey...

That was my initial feeling too, that they would choose either Peavy or Vogey to go after not both. If it's Peavy they are making the right choice.

So the 5th starter is still in play...Petit? A rookie? Another FA? Or (gulp)....Timmy?

Unfortunately, Timmeh will be given EVERY inside shot at the job. In reality, we really should bring someone in to compete with Petit and have Timmeh as the outsider.

If Vogey pitches Game 4, and gets a QS and a W, he raises his chances of re-signing with us considerably.

As I have opined before, we should have the budget for a quality OF (hopefully Tomas, and not Markakis), and Peavy. No Panda, no Romo, no Morse. I'm guessing now that we made the World Series, the revenue will be there to sign Vogey as well to a 1/5 or 1/6. We need options at SP, and the FO can likely afford that.

I think we need TWO legit OF additions. Anything Pagan gives us moving forward should be considered gravy. We cannot depend on his ability to stay healthy.

And I am not against bringing Vogey back on a 1-year deal.
