This is what I was thinking as well. Talent wise they are a bottom half of the league team playing in the conference that is absolutely loaded with QB talent now. Belichick is a great coach, but he can only cover up so many problems.

They seem deep but I'd agree that they don't look great. Jaguars get crap for spending lots of money in FA for average players and I'm seeing the same thing with the Patriots. That said, the floor of the team is high which means they should be in many games. Mac Jones stepping up is probably the only way they make the playoffs in a stacked AFC

Hard for me to think Mac takes that next step. Not a whole lot of great weapons to work with, a terrible OL, new system (and one that seems to not be going well), and I would say a somewhat limited ceiling to begin with.
