The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired forward Kris Newbury from the New York Rangers in exchange for defenceman Danny Syvret.

Last season Newbury split time between the Rangerrs and their American Hockey League affiliate the Connecticut Whale.

In six NHL games this season, Newbury had one assist and nine minutes in penalties. He also appeared in 70 AHL games, contributing 20 goals and 42 assists as well as 127 penalty minutes.

The Brampton, Ontario native was selected 139th overall, in the fifth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Syvret spent the entire 2012/13 season in the AHL with the Adirondack Phantoms, in 76 games he had six goals and 34 points.

The Millgrove, Ontario native has appeared with the Edmonton Oilers, Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks since making his debut during the 2005/06 season.

He was drafted by the Oilers in the third round, 81st overall of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

31 years old with 72 NHL games to his credit.

my guess is this move was mad to free up more time for the young guys at the AHL level and have them trying new roles and what not.

Yep. And apparently newbury is a decent power forward at the ahl level. Like 20 goals and 60 points or something last year. The phantoms could use they help cause they suck.

Jesus, McGinn could have stopped punching halfway through and still won that fight.

What happened to Mcginn i thought he played very well for us in the time he was here. after he got his orbital bone crushed i never heard about him again, not in trade talks or being called up or any future plans we have for him. At the very least i would think he could be an added player inyto a bigger deal

Mike Brown ended his productive season.

I figured he was OK but how come not any news on him at all especially in trade talks. If i was other teams i would be looking to get him as a throw in at the very least.

Any word on either Mesz or Coburn trade? Its been very quiet. On another note, do the Pens have a higher salary cap than the rest of the NHL? I have a feeling they are going to resign rat face Letang. But how?

I like McGinn hopefully he progresses.

I also hope letang resigns and screws the pens cap. They couldn't win with a stacked team good luck now.

didnt they basically already sign him but the nhl is reviewing the contract? i don't understand it either, they have 3 guys on their team making over 7 a year.
