per the Flyers facebook...

"TRADE ALERT: The Flyers have acquired defenseman Nicklas Grossman from Dallas in exchange for a 2012 2nd round pick, previously acquired from Los Angeles, and a 2013 3rd round pick, previously acquired from Minnesota."

solid move in my opinion. perfect age at 27, big guy, can play big minutes. didn't move any prospects. it only makes us better. hopefully the flyers can still add another d-man but this is a great start.

Thanks for the info. Can someone please tell me more about Grossman? I don't know a lot about him or watch many Stars games.

from what i've read, basically a good stay at home defenseman who blocks lots of shots. not overly physical but uses his size when he has to. meltzer did a blog talking lots about grossman a few days ago on hockeybuzz

Oh man, so happy.

Not like Weber obviously, but man does it feel good to have that much more depth.

The Flyers strike FIRST!!

Sweet move by Holmgren. He didn't overpay either.

Okay I feel better hearing it from an outsider. I'm going to have to read up on this guy. I still think we need another big dman besides this. Gill anyone? I called up my buddy who is a Stars fan from Dallas about Grossman. He said Philly got a great deal out of this. I feel better! Lol

I have said it before, so I will say it now. If we dont get a real legit #1 dman, I want 2 depth guys.

I want the 2nd.

Therefore you agree with my statement? Gill or Allen? Schenn is officially off the table IMO.

Yes, I do. :)

I have been high on Gill, but Allen seems better now.

I would still like Schenn however his probable cost I would rather just have another depthy guy.

Nice move by Homer, kept our prospects and the 1st, only downside is he's a ufa and will get a raise form the 1.6m he's making next year. I expect them to re-sign him if he plays well though. Now if only he could get here by tonight.

I don't know much about Grossman. Flyers def needed help on D but is Grossman (a rental player) worth two draft picks?

he's a defensive d-man who blocks shots, and I have a feeling they will re-sign him for under 3m a year if he plays into a contract. Having a stay at home guy wil be an upgrade to Carle and allow MEz to step up offensively a bit more.

Also it was the 2nd acquired form LA in the Richie deal & our 3rd so even if it ends up being a rental I don't think we'd lose too bad if he helps up right the ship now.

Depending on his play. He may take over Carle's spot next season.

love the trade. if i remember meltzer talking about him, it sounded like exactly what the flyers need, though he expects us to be pissed about his puck skills

The 3rd was also from Min in the Powe trade. So technically we traded away our extra picks for help on D. I love this deal now.

Nice way to put it. I'm looking forward to watching him play. I don't recall seeing much of him when we played the Stars earlier this season?
