actually, this year only, it could help them get to the floor.
a lot of high value, impossible to reach bonuses would be counted as cap hits.
as an absurd example: $10 million for 50 goals = boom, you're there.

those bonuses won't count til next year though.
i thought next year was final year? if this is final year Im shocked that its been so quiet about it.
The current CBA is set to expire on September 15, 2012. The 2011–12 NHL season will be the final year of the current collective bargaining agreement as the NHL Players' Association will no longer have the option to extend the current CBA. Should neither side reach an agreement prior to the start of the 2012–13 NHL season the rules of the current CBA will be grandfathered in until a new agreement is ratified.[citation needed]
