As a Pens' fan I say good.. Time to see what he's got. If he can't focus after starting the season 0-3 after Johnny started 4-0, well... fuck him then.

For now though, he is our man.

honestly Fleury is capable as a number one, and has the ability to be a top goalie in the league...he just has too many inconsistancies. if he'd get over his confidence problem we'd be golden. Beej has kept the ship afloat for now, but Fleury's our real #1. Bring the noise tomorrow flower!

This is not surprising and is the correct move... my brother and I had a discussion about this and he said Johnson should still start... I said Fleury would in Nashville, and I guess he is.

My thinking, Johnson won the first of the back-to-back. At that point in time the Pens were still struggling on all fronts so they needed stability in goal. Johnson won the 2nd end of the back-to-back. The next game was at home. Some thought Fleury would start that game, but my thinking was, if he performed badly at home, the crowd would let him hear it... I figured the next away game, which is tomorrow, Fleury would start regardless how well Johnson played.

Fleury has yet to play on the road, so maybe he'll find his game nashville.

He really hasn't let in TOO many bad goals, THIS year... my biggest problem with is game is his rebound control and getting off his angel a bit. So far he hasn;t given up a goal on the first shot of the game (or period) nor within the first minutes of the game. I was most worried about that element to his game, he is a slow starter.

My concern is these are all issues he has had since day one. He doesnt seem to work on the issues he has and relies on talent. Which isnt going to cut it anymore.

I hate the people in Pgh media criticizing Bylsma for putting Johnson in. I agree that Fleury is the number one, but he couldn't watch the team flounder while Fleury found his game. Giving Johnson a few starts was the right move. Fleury will play well tonight.

MAF's relationship with Pitt fans is eerily similar to that of Wingnuts and Osgood. I bet neither guy ever knows for sure if the fans love him or hate him.

I would also like to add that I believe Goalies usually hit their stride later than skaters do. The top 2 goalies in the league often include 1 right around the age of 30. It has to do with what goes on in between their ears. Getting older isn't always a bad thing, it leads to quicker thinking by utilizing muscle memorization. Especially in doing things that require quick reactions, like playing goalie for instance.:D

My final take on this situation = Too early to panic. You gotta give a guy a chance to redeem himself. Good goalies play good. Great goalies bounce back from bad streches to play good.

The sad part is that if he leaves him in, he'd probably be blamed for not trying to improve the team.

IMO, the coach won a cup with the goalie. I think I would trust how the coach manages his netminders.

I agree with Loki, and I haven't really had to listen to the Pittsburgh media complain...although if I know my Pittsburgh media I'm sure their focus was more on the James Harrison fine/retirement fiasco and not the Pens. Anyway...the situation was handled well IMO. Fleury struggled out of the gate (I still contend that he's really only had a couple 'bad' goals, though I'd agree his angles are a bit off) and Johnson played insanely well...why the heck wouldn't you start Johnson? Now Fleury's had a week to think about his career and what's gone wrong and he gets an away game start. I think he'll get this one, Beej gets St. Louis, then Fleury gets Tampa (unless Fleury plays lights out tonight, then he could see all 3). I think Bylsma handled the situation well to this point...now...Danny, lets get some consistency on those lines!

After back to back SCF appearances and his "secret service" save on Lidstrom, Fleury earned himself a lot of adoration from fans, enough to get through last season without facing much criticism. We all assumed he'd just flip the switch come playoff time. He didn't, so now the fans are a little apprehensive about his play to start this year.

If he has a mediocre season and another less than stellar playoffs, expect the fans to turn.
