Seems about right. Head shot, arms came up. You know, the NHL's life would be much easier if they just plain banned headshots in general. Don't even bring blindside, shoulder vs. elbow into it...just don't hit the head.

Why do players, coaches, and GMs really feel the need to whine about stuff like this? I can see if stuff is borderline, but when it's that blatant just shut up and take it like a man.

Especially considering the current environment in the sporting world and the new rules. Not even worth their breath. Stupid. I could see MAYBE complaining about the length, but for BOTH of them to say a suspension in general wasn't warranted? What are they smoking?

As far as the length of the suspension goes....Who cares? He got 6 games in an 82 game season. It's not like Iginla is sitting. It's Tom Nobody. It's a slap on the wrist.

IIHF has these rules. And really, it'll both keep the players safe/accountable, but it gives them a solid set of rules as to what is/isn't allowed. Don't hit the head, you don't have to worry about 6 game suspensions.

I was pretty mad when they made the announcement that "we need to hold a meeting and make up a rule about headshots".

No you fucking don't. If someone targets a guy's head in a hit, you fucking suspend him. You don't need to justify it with a rule, just because you fucked up the Booth-Richards non-suspension and the Cooke-Savard non-suspension doesn't mean you need to invent a "rule" so you can "finally hand out justice" for stuff that you couldn't in the past.

Furthermore, they have suspended guys for head shots in the past. Pronger was suspended twice, in the playoffs for head shots. One wasn't blind side, it was head on. Only problem was he put an elbow to Dean McAmmond's head. Would it have been Ok if it was blindside, before the rule was put into place?

Sorry, but it's a joke of a rule and never should have been necessary.

The sad part about these things is that for some reason rules HAVE to be there in order for action to be taken. So, save yourself the trouble NHL and blanket it. One rule, solves most issues.
