According to Darren McKee of 104.3 The Fan, the Redskins were also interested in acquiring Joe Flacco before his trade to Denver.
It makes sense as the Redskins are in desperate need of a quarterback with Alex Smith likely to miss all of 2019 with a broken leg that required multiple surgeries. Washington is sure to address quarterback in the upcoming draft, though the Redskins' flirtation with Flacco suggests the team would also consider a stopgap option like Case Keenum. With Smith out of commission, Washington's current quarterback room consists of journeyman Josh Johnson, career backup Colt McCoy and a fading Mark Sanchez.

Broncos won't adjust Joe Flacco's contract, which includes no dead money

According to this article the Broncos are on the hook for all of Flacco's salary & related hit. However they don't have to pay him or incur dead money if they release him. I would assume that the Redskins would have to have been in a similar situation (or at least close).

How in the hell could they afford that (as Skinsdad mentions above). I will be thrilled if they don't go after any other high profile vet QB this offseason. Stay with what you have & draft a QB this offseason or next. So tired of trying to build the QB position via other team's garbage.

there are always cap moves that this team always made to get guys they want in here. Especially acquiring a QB. Players will get released and contracts will get re done.

Great. How did all that work out? Those moves resulted in the current dilemma of being somewhat strapped now in terms of finding guys this offseason. I realize that some of this is due to bad luck, but bad luck always has to be factored into the equation.

You again appear to be focused simply on next season. This team has to look beyond that if it involves some near term suffering. Personally I am alright with a mediocre or worse 2019 season if it truly means that they will be in good shape in the long term. I am not wishing for that, but I can accept it.

It doesn't matter, Flacco is in Denver and wasn't coming here regardless of reports. I truly believe the Skins have their eyes set on a rookie in round 1 or 2. Trading back and picking up Jones from Duke would be ideal.

I think Jones is #1 on their list. The should grab him at 15 if he is there.

I would not be against this if we trade down and still nab him at #20
