About as evenly matched as any Playoff series can hope to be. And if you get seven games like the one we had Thursday night, you will be a bunch of really happy hockey fans.

Stars in 7.

I don’t follow hockey enough but can someone explain how the Wild finished 3rd in the entire west and has to face the 2nd team in Dallas? Seems to make no sense at all while lower seeds get easier matchups?

Division winners (1 and 2 conference seeds) get to play wild cards (7 and 8 seeds). Since the Wildcards can come from either division, you can't guarantee a divisional matchup so #1 seed plays WC2 (8 seed) and 2 seed plays WC1 (7 seed). That leaves 2 and 3 in each division to play each other which is immensely stupid because 4 of the top teams are out first round no matter what.

If the NHL was smart, which they are clearly not, they'd just use 1v8, 2v7 etc seeding in the conference.

Or better yet, 1v16, 2v15 etc top to bottom league wide. Which would have meant that two of the teams in the West currently in playoffs would not have made it at all. And the Pacific winning Golden Knights would not be playing the Utah Mammoth, they'd be playing the Buffalo Sabres. Utah wouldn't have made it.

For that matter if they did 1v16 the Ducks and Kings both would be out and the Wings/Capitals would have been in.

The whole model the NHL has right now for playoffs is awful on top of teams getting in because of the OT losses and shoutouts. The Capitals for that matter have more regulation wins than 9 playoff teams!

Anyway back to this series, I expect this one to be the most exciting to watch, shame it is the first round!
