I'd expect a slanting/attacking defense when in 4-3/4-2-5 Base defense. Maybe we'll see a lot more twist/stunts/off-ball LB blitzes than in years past with this defense.

In an interview with the team's official website this week, defensive line coach Todd Wash elaborated on some of those changes up front, which will be more focused on attacking in 2022.

"We were a read front last year," Wash said. "Now we're attacking. We're getting off the ball and playing at the heels of the offensive line. It's going to have us be more physical and aggressive up front."

@Old Lion will be hoping that the former Michigan LB won't be re-signing with the Steelers come March 2023. I'd be all-in on this acquisition, so long as he's healthy and his play is on an ascending trail.

Pittsburgh — Devin Bush will be playing for his job in 2022.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declined the fifth-year option on the inside linebacker, meaning he can become a free agent next spring.

Pittsburgh traded up in the first round of the 2019 draft to take Bush with the 10th overall pick. Bush played well as a rookie, getting 109 tackles with two interceptions and a sack while finishing third in the league’s Defensive Rookie of the Year voting. Bush’s career, however, hit a setback when he tore the ACL in his left knee against Cleveland in October 2020.

He returned in time to start the 2021 season but saw his playing time fluctuate. He played 79% of the defensive snaps last fall, compared to 82% as a rookie and 90% pre-injury in 2020.

This is the third time in the past four years that Pittsburgh has not exercised the fifth-year option on a former first-round pick. The Steelers let cornerback Artie Burns – their first-round selection in 2016 – walk after the 2019 season. They also didn’t exercise the fifth-year option on 2018 first-round pick Terrell Edmunds, though they did re-sign Edmunds to a one-year deal late last month.

Have to watch him. Sounds like he did not recover well from injury.

This more than anything shows how pointless "experts" grades are. Lions, Jets, Giants are all among the top 6, but combined have about as many wins in the past 5 years as the Patriots. The Patriots join the Niners, Rams, and Cardinals amongst the bottom 6. The Cowboys are 24th, just 8 from the bottom. In the past 11 years they have drafted 9 pro bowlers with their first round picks. Maybe they know what they're doing better than some guy with a pencil. Matt Patricia has a pencil. He could write an article and give out draft grades. It's good to have something to be excited about, but we're still the Lions. I don't know if we've drafted 9 pro bowlers with all of our first round picks ever.

@Edonidd I had a fucking great buzz going my way until reading your response.

Fuck Me.
Na, it is just a garbage take. No single draft is going to turn around a draft of a team as bad as the Lions, a good grades means people think they made a few solid steps, not that the team is all of the sudden a contender.

Last year the the Lions also got solid grades, and they produced 3 solid starters from it, with 2 more that show some potential to start. That is a good draft, it helps build a foundation, not make them an instant contender. This is year two of Holmes, and it appears like he is doing a solid job of a turnaround. Nobody thought it would make an instant turnaround. That is why Campbell got 6 years, it was an acknowledgment that they know the process will take years, and they want the staff to remain in place for it.
