Thought it might be kind of cool to hear from you all. When I was a kid my favorite thing was collecting sports cards in particular baseball. I would also read beckett baseball religiously to find out who might sign cards for me if I sent them in with a note. Everyone I ever sent a letter to besides manny sent me an autographed item back. Most guys would send me an autographed photo, larry walker and matt nokes signed the cards I sent them. Tony gwynn, frank thomas and cal ripken jr sent autographed photos. My favorite sports memorabilia though was chris spielman. For a fifth grade project we had to do something along those lines and report back what happened. Well I sent a chris spielman card in and wrote the note saying it was for my class project. The lions sent me back a detroit lions calender from that year that had all sorts of pictures of the lions players along with a chris spielman autographed poster. Was incredible. What about you guys?

Had a Beckett subscription as a kid. Did the same stuff. Frank Thomas sent back a note and then a deal to be in The Big Hurt Fan Club. Felt a little guilty, but I was a big fan. Tram, George Brett, Donnie Baseball and others signed the cards I sent. That was always a big deal as a kid.

Greg Caderet owned a bowling alley by me. And he played pony league for my buddies grandpa. Got a bunch of his autographs. Real nice guy.

Nokes was my favorite as a kid. (My name is Matt, Im guessing that did it.) Went to a few card show to meet him and get autographs.(Did the same thing with Pete Rose, he was expensive.) Always tried to get to Tigers Stafium early for BP. And would get autographs then. Dan Gladden, Milt Cuyler, Sparky, Rob Deer....

Last year around Christmas, JVs parents were touring around selling a book. My mom happened to be at some craft show when they were there and struck up a conversation. She pulled out her cell phone and showed them a pic of what they thought was her and their son at a Tigers game. They started talking about Justin and asked when shed met him. My told them she hasn't. It was her son. Hahaha. His mom wrote a little note in the book I got for Christmas about it. That was pretty cool.

At Pistons-Bullets game in junior high, I ran into Ty Wheatley. Had just dropped like $85 on a UofM basketball warmup jacket, had him sign it. Then kind of regretted it. Hahahaha. Haven't worn it since, but it still hangs in the closet.

My favorite is a ball my grandpa got signed at Dodger Town during Spring Training sometime in the 50's. Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, Pee Wee Reese, Duke Snyder, Don Newcombe... prolly 15-20 autographs on it.

And that Jack Morris ball that micro regrets getting for me. That one is awesome too.

I still wear my blue football belt two or three days a week. Not sure if that is memorabilia, but I love it. Wearing it right now.

I have a Gretzky autograph that he signed in the Toronto airport just before the 1991 Canada Cup. I landed at the same time as the team and had Gretz on one side and Robataille on the other waiting for their own luggage. Very nice guy, very gracious.

Signed Stafford pic/plaque my buddy got signed for me Nov 22nd 2009, right after Stafford's storied comeback vs the Browns, and just hours before I received my new heart. I'll take a pic of it and post it sometime.

I've got a couple of footballs signed by the Lions entire team, years 2000 and 2001. My sister had a good friend that worked in their PR department and she was able to get those for me. I also have a football signed by Charlie Sanders.

I have a nice collection of ND hats signed by a number of former players, but my all-time favorite and best one is a hat signed by the GOAT, Joe Montana. He was in town during move-in weekend when he was bringing his son Nate to school. He signed my hat as I stared at his smoking hot wife.

I also have a ball signed by Jack Morris(that I don't regret getting), but that one was made out to my 2 boys. He was in South Bend this summer at our single-A team game.

Was away for a bit, sorry i missed this thread.

I spoke of the ball I never kept before in Tigers board...
My dad caught a Roger Maris foul ball when he was a rookie. At 19 my dad never thought twice and gave the ball to kid sitting next to him. Fast forward to me catching a Cal Jr. foul ball his rookie year with my dad and he said if give that ball away and I bet this kid has a good career. All the while telling me the story again of Roger's ball(10th time prolly) I did give it away and still regret it to this day. Cal was going to be awesome no matter what. Till the day he died dad would tell me Cal owed his whole career to me. Great memory.

Have a Boog Powell autographed card. Good BBQ he has at Camden Yards.

Have two Turkey Bowl trophies that Dave Butz and Chris Hanburger handed me.

I have always given everything I have ever gotten away to little kids or charity auctions. And sometimes encouraged others to give away there stuff. Don't know whether to apologize for that or just say suck it Plajer :suds:

I have actually been lucky enough through my employment to meet quite a few NFL and NHL Red Wings over the years. But the items that really seemed to be of value was the NASCAR and Indy Car stuff. We had some huge names in racing that were clients of an advisor in one of my offices. We had Jimmie Johnson, the Andretti family, Jeff Gordon, Helio Castronevous, Dario Franchitti, Alex Zanardi, and Michael Waltrip. Those guys would have their teams give you anything you ask for it went to charity auctions. If you never ask them for anything when they were in front of you they knew it wasn't for you and were happy to help out.
