A couple interesting notes from the Farm today...
Fresno
Zito pitched today, and he got the win!! 6IP, 4ER, 5H, 2BB, 6K. Seriously, what are we going to do with this guy. Last year he was a serviceable #4 or #5. This year, he gets shelled in AAA.
Ford played in his first rehab game and 0-3 with a K. Just glad to see him playing. Will he get called up when he is ready? Who gets cut/traded?
Neal with 2 more hits and Otero with the save.
Richmond
Kieschnick goes 2-4 with a HR and 5 RBI. His BA is up to .256 on the season. If you hit .270 in the EL, that is respectable.
Dominguez got the start at 3B and hit cleanup. 0-4 with a K and a BB. Not horrible for his first game after a red-eye flight.
The Squirrels entered the 9th up 11-5, but the Richmond BP (Quirarte, mainly -- he used to be a decent prospect for us at one time) gave up 4 runs, requiring Heath Hembree to come into the game and get the save. He faced 2 batters and got a BB and a K.
San Jose
Brown hit a triple and scored. You gotta figure he only has a small handful of games left in San Jose.
Michael Main made his return to the mound in a short relief stint, going 1 IP with 3BB and 3K. Interesting line. Seeing as this is his first work in a couple months, I like the Ks more than I dislike the walks.
It looks like Mitch Lively gets the first dibs at the closer roll, as he threw 1 perfect inning (striking out the side) to get his first save of the season.
Augusta
RafRod and Lofton each had 2 hits with a double. Neither are having particularly good seasons, but both are having good enough years to be somewhat excited for the future (especially Rodriguez).
The Augusta bully threw 4 scoreless innings to get the win. Baby Cabbeza went 1 perfect inning with 3K. Don't look now, but he might actually be a legit prospect.
Salem Kaizer actually played a college all-star team, but I was unable to find the box or any news on the game.
