I think a lot of it is simply due to ramifications stemming from covid. Some people probably cut cable or satellite (I did). Some people found other interests. Some people might have found work on sundays. Some people might’ve sold their tv. And then some people probably aren’t watching it for political reasons.
I think it's mostly due to all of those people that sold their tvs. Of course I would have expected some of the people that bought those TVs to watch the game. Maybe they had to work a new job Sunday night to afford to buy those used TVs...

My point is, covid made people alter their lives in different ways. Those are just examples of why less people might be watching football. Do you think it’s purely due to the NFL’s embrace of BLM? I just turn it on after kick off. Problem solved.

Absolutely not. Week 1 ratings were pretty good right? I thought the protests and the such were much less than originally expected. I don't pay attention to them myself.

I don’t either. I just see conservatives talking about it. I always feel the need to push back because correlation does not mean causation.

Pregame, half time, commercial breaks, etc are never seen at my house.

Zero aggravation factor.

I have still watched some games. I have NOT watched any pregame shows like I used to all morning on Sundays and I also haven't watched any NFL Network ( i used to watch Good Morning Football) and I haven't watched any ESPN. I tune in the games right at kickoff and if the announcers get political, I'll hit the mute for 5 minutes or so. I also watch something else during half time or go take a crap if I've over eaten. So far, I have managed to watch the games with ZERO Politics and BLM.

I dont know how much is from COVID.....but all the rating "drops" are because people have cut the cord.

In the 1990's the top rated shows had 30-35 million viewers. In the 2000's the top rated shows had 25-30 million viewers. In the 2010's no show had more than 24m viewers. In 2015 the top rated show was Sunday Night Football at 21.M viewers. Last year the top rated show was once again Sunday Night football with 18.80 million viewers.

Sunday Night football has been the top viewed show in the US for 8 straight years. And that isnt going to change anytime soon as there isnt a close 2nd.

Cord cutting, netflix, Apple TV, ect, ect, ect. There are now so many more options for people to tune into. So you will never get as many people watching one show as we have seen in the past. What matters is NFL is still the top draw. Because while less people watch.....ad's during the games have done nothing but go up still in price.

I didn't see it in the OP story, but the streaming services are counted now in the ratings. So a drop is due to fewer eyeballs, not a change in how people are watching. People have more options and they have learned to do more things on the weekends than sit inside and watch some overpaid babies play a game.

Edit: I thought this was a PF thread, my bad. @fordman84 , please delete this post if it deems fit. I try to keep politics out of sports.

For POTUS, everything is about ratings. It figures it would trickle down to his flock.

Eh. World wide viewership continues to grow. Overseas is where the future money gains lie, not the USA. The NBA, Disney, etc have already made this all very apparent.

I’d be curious what the ratings and breakdowns are for pre/post game shows...halftime shows, even commercials. Where’s viewership for those

Every year the nutters post articles about how NFL TV ratings are plummeting. By now they should be in the negative numbers.

Who ever came up with the Dolphins and Jags as the National Televised Monday Night Game either has photos of someone with a six year old girl or was the six year old girl and is a Jags or Phins fan. I have turds that smell better than that game. Sucking up leaves with my lawn tractor is more exciting and more appealing than that.
