I understand why the rule exists and I think it's generally a good rule. But I didn't like how this rule played out on this particular catch. It was obviously called correctly according to the rule, but I mean that looks like it should be considered a catch in my book.

What part of "If you break the plane in possession of the ball, the play should be immediately over, no matter what" means you shouldn't have to possess the ball?

The play should be as dead for a receiver as it is for a runner. Or, they should change the rule so that the ground can cause a fumble. It's a crap rule.

If Dez holds onto the ball throughout the process or Romo doesn't throw up a jump ball on 4 and 1, who knows what would have happened. A bad decision by Romo in conjunction with a missed opportunity by Dez was the ultimate nail in the coffin. You gotta make the plays when it counts.

No doubt. Some describe these "steps" as if he were running down the sideline with the ball. He was in the air when he caught the ball, then his feet hit as he was stumbling on his way to the ground. Falling the whole time. The name of all these same threads should be changed to "I'm another guy who doesn't understand the rules."

Not true but irrelevant. He was in the air when he caught it and then was going to the ground before he established possession, so it's all one process at that point whether he bobbled it in the air or not. Since he was going to the ground, the only thing that now matters is whether he maintained control when the ball hits the ground. And he clearly did not. Has this really not been dissected enough by now that there's truly someone on the planet who still doesn't understand?

Whatever, It wasn't a catch. You can dissect any way you like. It's not going to change the fact that Dez didn't make the play when he needed to.

NFL rules say it definitively was not a catch. It's not even a question. This is like arguing against a team getting a 2 point conversion because you think only extra points should be allowed.
