.... and may miss the entire Training Camp with a reported broken leg. Though I'm not a fan of the kid I wish him a speedy recovery.

excerpt~

It appears training camp for the Cincinnati Bengals will begin with bad news regarding first-round pick Dre Kirkpatrick.

The cornerback suffered a leg injury while preparing for camp, a league source told CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora. The injury could involve a broken bone in his leg, according to the source, with the rookie possibly missing most or all of camp.

According to La Canfora, the Bengals declined comment on the matter, citing coach Marvin Lewis' policy of not discussing injuries prior to the start of camp.

This is a big blow for a Bengals team that expected an instant contribution from the former Alabama standout, selected 17th overall in April's draft. With Bengals cornerback Leon Hall coming off a torn Achilles, Kirkpatrick had an opportunity to start right away.

We got Terrance Newman. No worries.

It's not like we're facing a schedule full of elite passing QB's.....oh wait.

Yeah, it's gonna be a great season!

The Kirkpatrick pick had bust written all over it right when we made it. I wasn't expecting anything out of him anyway.

The real question is whether or not Hall will play and if he'll play at his normal level. If he does, we'll be okay at corner - If he doesn't we're screwed.

Good thing we picked up a bunch of middle-of-the-pack-at-best CB's this offseason.

I thought they were all converted to safety.

Oddly enough, when Joe Reedy talked to Zimmer, Zimmer said that if Mays doesn't win the starting gig at Safety, Clements will get a look there as well as Iloka.

If you didn't expect anything from him and thought he was going to be a bust then why were you arguing with me in the "Orson Burns SWAGGA for a 40 Yard Play" thread when I made the same claim? I guess that's another example of "I'll take the opposite position of August no matter what he says" argument by some of the board.

My argument was that basing a guy's potential on one play in spring camp or a bad day he had in college is silly.

The Bengals can't catch a break.
If we do manage to sign some good players outside our basic staples they crash their vehicles, they get arrested, they jump out of moving trucks. If ever there was a team that was cursed this is it.

Didn't the lions just cut a DB due to DUI? Sounds like a fit here. A chance for the redeemer to strike again!

It's not a major injury. It's not something that might hinder him throughout his career (i.e. achilles, ACL). Yeah, it sucks but injuries happen. Just look at it this way. When he gets back is when we usually got our first roudners signed anyway prior to the CBA. Kirkpatrick was probably my least favorite pick in the draft but I think he'll be a good corner. he's actually like a young nate clements.

How is this possible already?

Well if you've been following my posts all off season you would know I was NEVER a fan of Dre Kirkpatrick (6'2" 185) and that I thought he would eventually be switched to safety. Its no secret that I've said that he reminds me of Michael Huff (6'0" 211), Malcolm Jenkins (6'0" 204) and Antrel Rolle (6'0" 208), all big CB's who lacked speed and was switched to safety in the Pro's. So this isn't a knee jerk reaction to his poor play during mini-camp, it just reinforces my belief that he doesn't have the speed to play on the outside.
