Ok - Lock won four out of five games started and injected energy into the Broncos. It still raises the question - is Jeff Driscoll the ideal backup to Lock? He's a temporary solution.

The Broncos have a QB whisperer in Shumur and his QB guy. They will want to develop a guy behind lock - in case Lock gets injured, or when 3 years are up and he has one year on his contract and they can't sign him. Even if you don't need the guy - you can potentially trade him for value and sign Lock.

I am suspicious that the Broncos might take a mid-round QB to groom as he backup or replacement for Lock long term.

Who would be good QB picks in round 3-4-5?

Eason, Fromm and Hurts are those I’ve seen ranked around 3rd, 4th round.

not a great year to really be needing a QB. Or a TE for that matter.

I’d rather grab James Morgan or Jake Luton in the later rounds. I feel like Elway would love the arm James Morgan and Iowa QB Nate Stanley have. I don’t see a QB before round 5, gonna spend our time still developing Lock. Not necessary the best situation for a young QB to be in at Denver unless Lock craps the bed. I think like Driskel they Probably look for a quarterback similar to lock so the offense stays basic. So that would take Stanley and Luton out. Step up James Morgan. Anthony Gordon is another possibility.

I think basically it comes down to... If there is value and Iowa loves the guys arm and he fits the offense we pull the trigger late, if not. Oh well.

I think something that is very forgotten by most people is that most teams are looking for a QB in the mid rounds that fits what their starter does, and not to the same degree, but similar style. They don't want to have to change the offense around a lot for a backup QB. It throws everyone off on offense.

I think we should wait for the 2026 draft and in the meantime trade for a team’s 1st rounder we think might suck the worst in 2025.....
