I still think a player should be allowed to slow down to almost a stop and then do 50 moves, if this is cool then a goalie should be allowed to meet a player at the Blue line and Knock the shit out of him before he gets started..

soooo...

during all that jukey-juke.. does the puck not travel backwards? Thereby, by definition, stopping it's forward motion, rendering the shootout attempt over?

it's the "Animal Farm" interpretation of that "rule"

That would be quite the scene...

/As far as the Kane goal, I've seen several worse offenders (i.e. guys really slowing down) and the puck was constantly moving forward. The phrase "stickhandling in a phone booth" comes to mind.

It's a fine line granted, but then all those spin-a-rama shootout goals should be disallowed (as the puck definitely is not moving forward towards the goal). In this case, it was lateral which is still deemed to be fine.

Unfortunately the shootout is geared for scoring goals because thats what the league wants so the shooter will have the advantage in the rules.

there is one spot where he literally pulls it backwards as he comes in... but we're splitting hairs, true.

And I also agree on the spin-o-rama, forward motion stopped, shootout over.

easy solution, re-word the rule, or get rid o it al together.
'Cuz the letter of the the law is broken all the time.

I would rather it be the wild wild west out there. Let them got f'n nuts. Let them go behind the net if they want to, chase rebounds... Just put an 8 second timer on it or something.

Yup... and yup. Nasty move, but they botch the constant forward motion rule as per usual on these.

If he just keeps his speed and pulls it back a little as part of a move, nobody is going to question it (same with a spin-o-rama which can be done with constant forward motion). But the way he almost stops - not really in the spirit of the SO I don't think.

I heard someone mention they like the idea of a shotclock introduced into the shootout. Not sure how I feel about that, but it would eliminate that.

Shot clock is an interesting idea, but idk how I'd feel about guys hacking at rebounds with no d-men to protect the goalie.

The shotclock is a good idea but only get one shot so that won't happen.

lol, no I believe it is just to get the shot off. One shot, no rebound. Just to avoid all the fancy deking. Shoot and try to beat the goalie, done.

edit: kinda like soccer. just shoot, no fancy shit.

I'm still waiting for the day when a goalie throws off his mask & gloves and goes after a hated rival on the other team.

Hextall would have made my dream a reality. I could def see him throwing em with someone like Hunter or Barnaby. Yeah...the guy probably scores, but he'd be skating head long straight into an ass kicking! :becky:

The way I see it, would he attempt this type of shot on a clear cut breakaway during an actual game?

Probably.

But I see your point in the keeping it in the "forward motion only no stopping spinomatic" attempts..

maybe offer video reviews from the monkeys to decide whether its good or not..

screw that.

They review every shot in the shootout for every game as it is happening. The league cant even follow their own guidelines. Kinda sad.

isnt the spirit of the rule if the puck is continously moving forward (barring any stick movement) he does stop quick but that puck doesnt. I dont know anymore that was nice.

Beats me... I really dont care either way. A goalie should be able to stop the shot period. It should be treated as a breakaway.

yeah I totally agree even if they want to wrap around. its a break away let them do what they want. unless its tampa bay they would just sit at the blue line and wait for the opposing goalie to make his move
