Meh even with their recent play this firing was a long time coming. I was shocked he opened the season as the coach. They wanted him gone a year ago but could not find the big name they wanted to replace him.

Actually if you look at it at a different angle,it would make sense... The Dolphins are 4-9 with 3 games to go.. They are out of the play off hunt and with the firing of Saparano, they can now pursue other coaching candidates.. This gives them a head start on other teams looking for a new head coach (except for the Chiefs)... Saparano's days as the Dolphin HC were already numbered... It' highly unlikely they will keep him at the end of the season... With nothing to play for, except pride, they decided to cut him loose and start their HC hunt early...

If Caldwell doesn't join the list of the unemployed then, Polian's farce is exposed, not that it isn't already.

THANK GOD they didn't fire him last offseason; they might've stolen Harbs from us. :)

Miami Dolphins fire coach Tony Sparano - Miami Dolphins - MiamiHerald.com

Though Bill Cowher said Oct. 30 on CBS that he does not plan to coach next season, the Dolphins are not convinced that he’s adamant about that and are expected to contact him once the job is open, according to an associate of Ross.

If Cowher declines Miami’s overtures, Ross is expected to turn his attention to ESPN analyst Jon Gruden, former Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher and former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick. Gruden won a Super Bowl in Tampa, Billick won one in Baltimore and Fisher lost one with Tennessee.

Philadelphia’s Andy Reid likely would be considered if he and the Eagles surprisingly part ways. Giants coach Tom Coughlin also could become available if New York misses the playoffs, though it’s unclear if Miami would have interest.

Gruden, who has gone 95-81 in 11 years as an NFL coach (four with Oakland, seven with Tampa) has told ESPN he wants to remain in broadcasting next season. But an associate said Gruden might listen if approached by a marquee franchise with a rich tradition.

---------

Ross hasn’t ruled out hiring a top college coach if he cannot land a “star” NFL coach. One name that would likely would fit Ross’ criteria (successful and a big name) is Les Miles, who is 75-17 in seven years as LSU’s head coach. Miles attended Michigan — Ross’ alma mater — and was offensive line coach there from 1987 to 1994. He had one NFL job, as the Cowboys’ tight ends coach from 1998 to 2000. “Stephen loves anything to do with Michigan,” an associate said about potential interest in Miles.

But any Dolphins interest in Miles would be purely speculative at this point, and there’s no indication he would necessarily be interested in a jump to the NFL.
