I was at the south of France a few years ago, went for a swim in the Mediterranean.
Was about 200 yards out, but the water was still chest-deep. The water is very clear, so I can see the bottom.
I'm walking along, and step on what looks like a rock. It was an octopus, with a head about the size of a bowling ball. Freaked me the fuck out (and him too, I'm sure), but let me tell you, in bolting back to the shore, I have never swam so fast in my life before or since

I think I would have died. Although that is small, so I would have done what you did. But if I was ever in the water and saw like a giant octopus, I think I would just shit my heart out and sink to the ocean floor.

Octopus's really freak me out.

Yep.

This is why I hate the ocean. Open water is my biggest fear because you are just so out of your realm. If something wants to kill you, you're dead. There is no fight you can put up. Fuck the ocean.

most things in the ocean are more afraid of you than you are of it

at least that's what i tell myself when i'm scuba diving

One of these days, I plan to paddle my kayak from Maple Bay to Salt Spring Island. It should be fun (as long as it's a calm day).

Ate some 'live' octopus recently in Korea. Pretty fun. It was just a little guy, they chop him up but he keeps wriggling. Looks like this:

live-octopus-1.jpg

The little legs try to hold onto the plate when you pry at them with your chopsticks. They keep squirming right until the end. The grossest thing though, the head kept trying to crawl around using his little stumps! Seriously, he used his stumps to crawl right off the plate. Super gross but awesome. All in all, the head and uneaten limbs kept squirming for about an hour.

Highly suggested for everyone.

I couldn't do that to a living creature, but that's just me. I don't like the taste of octopi anyway.
