On a 1 year deal.

Thoughts @Chewbaccer

One year deal, more money than I would like, but potentially high reward. Don't mind it.

Probably means that either Dansby Swanson or Johan Camargo is gonna be traded away though, that or Austin Riley is gonna be used in a major trade, but if Donaldson is 3/4 the player he was before his injury, it improves our offense without sacrificing much on defense.

Less than thrilled about the Brian McCann nostalgia signing though.

I think it's a good move for the Braves. Already a play-off team with a lot of young guys and you get a veteran bat without going long term. If ( maybe big if) Josh stays healthy and gets back to his form of a couple years ago, it becomes a great short term deal. I think he will help the young guys there too. No long term risk is always a bonus in FA these days.

Bit pricey IMO but still a good deal for a good young team.

Dude's only a year removed from being one of the best hitters in the league and he looked much more like the Donaldson of old in Cleveland, granted it's a small sample size. It's a lot for a 1-year-deal, but if anyone is worth the "prove it" deal it's Donaldson IMO.

He projects to be a substantial improvement over Camargo, too.

I think this means that either Dansby or Camargo is traded. Hopefully Dansby. Camargo is a better defensive SS and a far better bat. Either that or they're gonna stick Camargo in right field, which would be a waste of an excellent infield glove.

If Donaldson is anything close to what he was pre injury, it's worth it.

But like I said, I'm a bit annoyed at the Brian McCann signing.

Moustakas gets $5 million last year, crazy how quickly things change.

Agreed except I think they hang on to Camargo and use him in a super utility role and Dans stays at SS, although it's a make or break year for him imo. Camargo and Culberson as your 2 main bench pieces is a hell of a bench.

I like the Donaldson signing, if he's injured then we just eat the money (again) for the year and move on to 2020

I'd be happier about the McCann signing if we didn't already have Flowers. They're the same to me and tells me that we're done making moves at C this year and they're hoping to develop their own JTR from within.

Camargo isn't an elite player by any stretch, but to me he's too good to be a bench piece and not an everyday player. I could honestly see him playing RF since it looks like my Bryce Harper wishes were just a pipe dream.

Should, hopefully, help Freeman too with Donaldson hitting clean up.

Would be nice to have some real protection for Freddie. Markakis had a nice season last year, but no pitcher was afraid of him, and I don't want to take Acuna out of the leadoff spot. As of right now, I'm thinking the lineup will look something like:

1. Acuna
2. Albies
3. Freddie
4. Donaldson
5. Camargo(if they play him in RF)
6. Ender
7. Flowers/McCann
8. Dansby

I think he will be an every day player so to speak, just not locked to any one position unless an injury happens

It’s a lot of money, but it’s only one year, which is pretty unheard of these days for veterans.

He’s not too far back from MVP seasons, and he put up hellified numbers in CLE, albeit a small sample.

Fuck you, chewy.

Moustakas sucks. What the fuck are you talking about?
Moustakas was worth 5.1 WAR in 2016-18. Donaldson was worth 4.8 in an injury-shortened 2017 alone. Moose ain't bad, but I'd much rather pony up the extra $15M+ for a dude that was arguably the 2nd best player only a year+ ago.

really hope Josh can return to 2017 form for a few more years. he could have an interesting HOF case IMO.
