Dolphins sign QB Ryan Fitzpatrick (2 years, $11 million): C- Grade
Ryan Fitzpatrick put together some brilliant performances last year. He had some dud outings as well, but anyone who expects more of the former in 2019 will be sorely disappointed.

Fitzpatrick torched the Saints, Eagles and Steelers to open the season, but he had an arsenal of talented weapons at his disposal. Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson, Chris Godwin, Adam Humphries and O.J. Howard are all more talented than anyone the Dolphins have at receiver or tight end. Fitzpatrick will be working with a far worse supporting cast in Miami, so he'll struggle, especially considering that he turns 37 in November.

This just seems like a stupid signing. The Dolphins should've gone for a quarterback with more upside. Blake Bortles, for example, would've been a better choice. Bortles has been terrible throughout his career, but he at least has potential. Perhaps getting cut by the Jaguars would've served as a wake-up call for him. If not, the Dolphins would just end up with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, which seems to be the plan anyway.

Fitz isn't good enough to get them to the playoffs but isn't bad enough to land them a top 10 spot. Should have just ran with Tanny's back up, stink and battle the Giants for the 1.1 next years draft.

As well those three afermentioned teams all had terrible secondaries. Especially to start the season.
He's a good back up, just not sure he'd be my starter? Cost wise he's where he should be top of the scale for back ups. So Miami did good there. He like every other QB for Mia, over the past two decades will be used as a stop gap during their latest "rebuild".

Like the Colts did with Painter( think that was his name) ? Might seem like too obvious tanking.

It's obvious tanking but he's on the roster from the previous year so the NFL can't say a word about it.

I like the signing. Dolphins arent committing to any QB this year. They have some plan in 2020.
Fitzmagic is good enough to help them evaluate other offensive players. Great locker room guy. Cheap. Gives a chance to win. When new guy does come in. he will most likely be ok with being the back up. (he is being paid back up money now)
If he has to start the 2020 season as the starter it will flow until they make the swap. They were never gonna get a high quality 1st stringer. None would be willing to go there as a lame duck starter.

You need a good OL with Fitz...but as a stop gap, they could do worse and that's basically what you're saying I think,

The above tweet was the best from the linked references and about sums it up.
Positive for the Dolphins is they got an additional 4th round pick and a lower cap hit for about the same talent.
