Then we don't even need to upgrade there, we can trade him away for equal value and keep Barnes and improve...?

I really can't say if that's true or not. I guess it depends on the return for him. Maybe an expiring deal so Barnes becomes a starter and then we can get a FA?

GSW is one David Lee injury away from being a top Western Conference team. I never root for injuries. Just stating the obvious.

I think he's off his rocker. Barnes is no long term solution at power forward, and this team is already offensively challenged with Lee in the lineup. They have to a move a big contract though, and Lee is the obvious candidate, so he should keep his bags packed in the offseason.

I don't think it's right to say that Barnes is a straight up replacement for Lee. But I do think it's odd that Jackson hasn't used Barnes more in that role this year, considering how effective it was in last year's playoffs. And Barnes has has some of his best games this year when playing at PF, just doesn't happen very often.

As for trading Lee, the problem with waiting until the offseason to trade him is (I THINK, someone correct me if I'm wrong), that his new salary kicks in at the beginning (after the July trade moratorium), meaning we would then have to trade a $15.0M contract instead of his current (already bad) $13.9M contract. Which might make it even more difficult.

Barnes was effective at PF in the playoffs because Denver went small with Wilson Chandler at PF, and in the SA series Pop basically choose Barnes as the guy who needed the least defensive attention. You're a rookie, so I'll take a chance that you can't beat us, while I focus on other players. A good strategy that helped Barnes, but ultimately worked for SA. On a number of occasions Barnes was actually guarded by Tony Parker, whom he posted up successfully. I think this could work occasionally as matchups dictate, but it's not a consistent and viable strategy IMO.

Me too. Lee is extremely valuable.
