I think the USTA Tennislink site gives some resources, but if you check out your local parks, they might have some sort of social tennis thing going on that you could get on.

Tennis Lessons and Camps for Adults

Thanks. That site gave me a Community Tennis Association in my city, with a contact email and phone number.

I'll send an email to see if they can help.

What's the difference between Tennis Warehouse and Tennis Express?

Are they just competitors, or is one better?

Do all racquets come with a one-racquet racquet bag? Or is that extra? I don't want one of those sleeves that just covers the head.

Maybe racquet cover is the better term. I just mean I want it to be full length and zippered.

I don't think they just come with them anymore. There was a time when that was standard but no longer.

I forgot about Midwest when I was doing my racquet purchasing

same price, no biggie.

they charge by the racquet to demo though.

Tennis Warehouse had a flat fee of $25 for up to 4 racquets for a week. That's a better deal for me.

TW has a much larger selection then all of them. Holabird is the only one that comes close. You can also find additional gear on the TW Europe site. There are some things only sold there and not in the US and vice-versa.

I'm not a fan of Holabird's website redesign. It isn't easy to browse.

I think I asked this a few years ago. But I'll ask again anyways.

What's the best way to find someone random to play with, for a one-off match? If it's fun, then maybe I'd do it more frequently, but if not, then no big deal.

Is there a site or app that's good for that?

Assuming I could find someone at a similar skill level (someone who doesn't play very much).
You might want to try using an app like Meetup, Opensport, etc. I've never used any, so I don't know how effective they are, but worth a shot maybe.

well all the racquets I tried were in the 300-305 weight range, mostly head-light, meaning more of the weight is in the handle.

I like a more open string pattern, so the 16x19 works for me as it helps me generate more spin on the ball.

but really I just liked the feel of it in the end. I felt the ball was coming off the racquet better than the others and I liked how well I could control the ball.

my other top choice was the Wilson Ultra Countervail, which was nice, but in the end I went with the Babolat. Either would have been fine, I think.

I see Babolot has 4 models of Pure Strike.

Babolat Pure Strike 16x19 Demo | Babolat Tennis
Babolat Pure Strike 18x20 Demo | Babolat Demo
Babolat Pure Strike 100 Demo | Babolat Tennis
Babolat Pure Strike VS demo rental | Babolat Demos

* 16 x 19
* 18 x 20
* 100 (16 x 19 pattern)
* VS (16 x 20 pattern).

There doesn't seem to be any other differences between the 16 x 19 vs 18 x 20 models, except for the string pattern.

What would the 18 x 20 do vs. the 16 x 19?

The 100 model has a 100 inch square head, but is also lighter (11.2 oz vs. 11.4).

The VS model is even lighter, at 11 oz, and has a lower stiffness rating (64 vs. 67). What would this be like compared to the others?

a more open string pattern in the 16x19 version helps generate more spin

a lighter racquet has a bunch of obvious advantages, but if you are looking at swingweight, it rates how it feels swinging the racquet. A higher swingweight gives you more plowthrough.

here, this helps...another reason I like tennis-warehouse best.

How to Choose a Racquet

  • A heavier frame = more power.
  • A heavier frame = less vibration.
  • A heavier frame = larger sweetspot.
  • A stiffer frame = more power.
  • A stiffer frame = larger sweetspot.
  • A stiffer frame transmits more of the shock load to the arm than a more flexible frame.
  • A stiffer frame provides a more uniform ball response across the entire string plane.
  • A larger frame = more power.
  • A larger frame = resistant to twisting.
  • A larger frame = larger sweetspot.
  • A longer frame = more velocity and therefore more power.
  • A longer frame = more spin due to increased velocity.

The head of the CTA in my city, is going to give my contact info to some people that regularly play.

So if/when those people contact me, then maybe I'll be playing soon.

Is it still easy to hit a flatter ball, if I wanted to? Does this give me greater flexibility to either hit a flatter ball, or generate more spin?

if you want to hit a flatter ball, then a denser string pattern (18x20) would be more for you. That would likely fit your swing style more.
