Do we need to fix the CFB playoff?

Many people are not happy with the current playoff system. Teams with 1st-round byes are now 1-7. Programs like James Madison get to worm their way in. And of course, there's Notre Dame complaining their @$$ off.

So what can we do to fix it? Chime in with your ideas, but I have my own plan.

Here is how I would fix the CFB playoff. For those of you guys saying "Duh, just add more teams"... I'm actually with you! Expand the field to 16, and have everyone play 1st-round games! Saves you the hassle of hearing teams whine about "too much rest".
The selection process for playoff teams would go like this:

4 major conference champions get automatic bids.
1 "Group of Five" conference champion gets in too (I don't want the little guys to be UNhappy.)
And for the other 11, just let the rankings do the rest of the work.

So for this year's field, it would go something like this:

1. Indiana vs. 16. Duke
8. Oklahoma vs. 9. Alabama
4. Texas Tech vs. 13. Texas
5. Oregon vs. 12. BYU
2. Ohio State vs. 15. Tulane
7. Texas A&M vs. 10. Miami
3. Georgia vs. 14. Vanderbilt
6. Ole Miss vs. 11. Notre Dame

Now here is where my genius comes in. To try to keep the bowl season alive, I think the 8 losers from the CFP 1st round should get funneled into 4 prestigious non-CFP bowls. An example would be:

Citrus: Texas A&M vs. Texas Tech
Holiday: Notre Dame vs. Duke
Gator: Vanderbilt vs. Tulane
Las Vegas: BYU vs. Oklahoma

...But that's just my idea. What would YOU guys do?

How about a double elimination playoff? That way ESPN can make a lot more money and that could keep a bowl structure somewhat in tack.

*sigh* Yeah, I get your point. But that's always been a part of college football; teams crying about the sport being unfair. Arizona State complaining in 1975 after going undefeated, USC complaining in 2003 after being left out of the BCS title game, and Boise State fighting the BCS tooth and nail are perfect examples.

But I was more focused on getting rid of 1st-round byes. There's always gonna be teams saying "Why aren't we?", but sadly that's part of the game.

I think you can do with 16 teams

I'm with you on going to 16. It eliminates the bye week; yes there will always be that umpteenth team that says "we shoulda been there" no matter how many participants you have; and major blowouts already happen so the argument about bad matchups isn't really valid. Plus it would include Notre Dame most years so they could stop crying.

What about adopting something similar to the English premier league. Top teams in the lower league get promoted and lower teams in the top league get demoted.

How to implement, I have no fu cking idea.

But make the group of 5 play stiffer competition.

This should already been implemented. But the G5 will sue for anti-trust.

How about this. If the G5 want to be included, then do a G5 four team playoff during the bowl season for an opportunity for that spot in the CFP.

But I prefer the G5 break away and do their own thing and the P4 go back to the four team model.

I’m just glad that this is the narrative. Everything this organizing body touches turns to shit. They can’t do anything right.
