MLB beleives Manny's time is served...
Will the Rangers call him up? Is Manny being genius for re-setting his HOF vote clock?
MLB officials says Manny Ramirez?s suspension for violating drug policy in 2011 considered served | Texas Rangers BlogARLINGTON — Manny Ramirez returned to organized baseball with the Rangers on Wednesday freed of what once was a looming 100-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy.
Ramirez retired from Tampa Bay five games into the 2011 season in advance of the 100-game suspension for excessive levels of testosterone. When Ramirez applied for reinstatement in December, 2011, MLB and the Major League Baseball Players Association worked out a deal in which the suspension was cut to 50 games.
Ramirez went to spring training on a minor-league deal with Oakland last year and requested his release in June after appearing in 17 games with Sacramento of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. He did not play the remainder of the season and opened this year with the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League, in Taiwan.
According to an official with MLB, Ramirez is considered to have served the suspension. The official did not expand on what went into the decision, but it appears that MLB applied the same logic that went into halving the original suspension.
Ramirez served a 50-game suspension while with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2009 for testing positive for human chorionic gonadotropin, a banned female fertility drug popular among steroid users because it can mitigate the side effects of ending a cycle of the drugs.
