Patriots place James Develin on injured reserve

James Develin‘s neck injury has landed him on injured reserve, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

The Patriots fullback played 58 offensive snaps the first two games. He was inactive Sunday.

The Patriots promoted Jakob Johnson before the game against the Jets, and Johnson played two offensive snaps and six on special teams.

Develin had two carries for 3 yards this season.

The Patriots now have Develin, Isaiah Wynn and N’Keal Harry on injured reserve, with only two players eligible to return this season.

There will be some growing pains, the O line is a unit that needs time together I can't think of another area where being on the same page is so critical.

When he was cut I remember thinking, he would not be cut if we didn't have Develin. Glad we have this kid.

He’s eligible to return after 8 weeks on IR, same as Wynn and Harry. But they can only activate 2 of the 3. Awesome as Develin is, I think they need the other 2 more right now. Johnson’s showing enough they can afford to give him the whole year to heal that neck up.
