That dude is tough as nails. Must've been some injury. He set the stage for the next man up though.

he leaves a big hole in the run game:suds:

Complications from his 2019 neck injury have forced Patriots FB James Develin to retire after eight years in the NFL.
Develin's professional football career actually began in 2010, but he had to put in stints in the UFL and Arena League before the big leagues came calling. A converted defensive lineman, Develin turned in six seasons of lead blocking duty before his neck derailed 2019. Three months shy of his 32nd birthday, the three-time Super Bowl winner has made the wise decision to put his long-term health first. It's unfortunate timing for both him and the Patriots with a more run-heavy offense likely at least in the initial wake of Tom Brady's absence.

That dude is tough as nails. Must've been some injury. He set the stage for the next man up though.

I was told that he compressed the two top vertebrae in his neck and that they actually started to displace. They corrected the displacement by having him wear a compression brace for a month. The biggest concern would be taking a head to head to the upper side of the head causing a severe side bend.

He using his head and calling it a career. He's got a couple of Sb Rings and played with some of the best ever to play in the game.

Enjoy and have a great rest of your life JD.

Bill Belichick Releases Heartfelt Statement After James Develin’s Retirement

“To some people, James Develin may be ‘unsung’ in terms of publicity and fame, but to his coaches and teammates he is one of the most appreciated and respected players we have ever had,” Belichick said, via Patriots.com. “In football, there are a lot of tough, unselfish and dependable people who bring positive leadership on a daily basis, but the name James Develin represents those qualities at an elite level. A tribute to the impact James had on our success, of the five seasons in which he appeared in every game, we won three championships. Any team would be fortunate to have a James Devlin-‘type’ on its roster but the reality is he is a rarity and we are very fortunate he was a Patriot.”

Guy's a quitter. This is what Alex Smith's leg looked like 4 days after surgery and he attempted a comeback.

That would be great! He can teach them a thing or two
I just don't know how you coach a very hard head into someone...

but of course there's the selfless determination to improve yourself with the goal of improving everyone else around you in the process.
