Some player's desire or "heart" is above the capacity of their physical tissues to absorb what their desire is motivating them to do. Amendola is one of those guys that just does not have the physical wherewithal to withstand the rigors of the game at the professional level on a consistent long-term basis. His career will be attenuated because of it as a player but he'll be a great position coach. The Rams' knew this and now the Patriots know what the Rams knew. I wish Amendola the best but his career is not going be a long one.
I can't say nothing...I feel like I'm made of glass as well. 2 sprained shoulders, 2 dislocated (sprained) thumbs, sprained ankle last 3 yrs. I have no room to talk..and mines are non football related but I hope he recovers though.
Yea JDM and others. These "minor" injuries that Amendola has now maybe a "non-issue" because the Patriots maybe extra caring in their approach to players like Amendola but there is a consistent story here that does have to do with Amendola being in this position.
That story is the reason Amendola was let go in the first place along with his demand for way more bucks. That story being is that the guy cannot stay healthy for any appreciable length of time. Granted, many players get nagging "minor" injuries during the course of a season but here we are in the pre-season and his name is once again appearing in that category of "injured" not playing.
Because he is often in the catastrophic category of injuries through just a matter of time, his risk of being injured is very high all of which leads to the notion that his risk of injury to production ratio is also very high and that is the major reason along with his demand for money is the reason is career will not be a long one.
Amendola signed for $12M, (of which $10M is guaranteed), over 2 years. The Patriots then have options at $4.5M, $5.5M, and $6.5M in future years. In the NFL scheme of things it's not a lot of money, especially when you look at the deals given to Wells, Finnegan, Long, and Cook. It's about choices. We could have signed Amendola but we'd have made some different choices concerning Long, Cook, and Austin.
That too FastForward but their mitegating factors that contribute to those choices and for Amendola I provided two of the more prominent. For the Rams, the factors I presented and the affect of keeping Amendola on other choices the Rams deemed more important as you eluded to were the sum total of factors not to re-sign the guy.
Amendola is playing football. They get dinged up. The Pats need time for the rookies. He doesn't need more playing time in pre-season. You have some good receivers. I think the Pats needed him more than you did at the time of signing.....
