on
Coleman is more a straight line speed and power guy. I see Cook as a far more complete back who can both avoid contact, run through it when he has to and outrun defenses once he gets to daylight.
only if he adds 10 lbs of shoulder muscle

Whats the ballpark opinion on player comparisons for Cook? About how good do people think he is? If I say he is in the same ballpark as Cadillac Williams am I missing something that you guys who have seen all of his game has seen?

So you think he's garbage? I would say on the upside he could be Jamaal Charles If Jamaal Charles could stay healthy. I'll be surprised if he's not far better than Cadillac Williams.

I'm not sure what is going on, but somebody is going to get a steal, unless there's something I don't know, an injury maybe ?

Kid has talent, no question...I'm more surprised McCaffery went top 10 than I am with Cook not going 1st round....when you scan the picks again, when GB traded out of 25 and CLE picked a S in that spot, it was pretty clear no more RBs were going to get picked.

Cook is not that fast. He has RB speed but not track superstar speed

We don't need Dalvin Cook. We already have Dalvin Cook. Goes by Ameer. That's not to argue who's better, who's better is irrelevant. They bring a similar skillset and neither has what we're missing in our stable, a bruiser.
Ameer is overrated as fuck.

He had an awful combine
This is true but I've also been watching his game tape. He is quick in some ways but not Charles quick unless my eyes are really playing tricks on me.

I feel like I've seen so many running backs this draft that Im kinda jaded as to what 'fast' actually is. That said, I think he is a lot stronger than a Charles type, too. You see a legit ability to break tackles and move defenders back.

Really was mind boggling bad for someone who looked good on tape, but then if you look at his tape closely, play design had a lot to do with his big plays. Then there his bad shoulder, and his thug friends, his off the field trouble...

Yea that's the thing his tape is so impressive. But a lot of red flags around him too.

He's not Jamal Charles fast, not many are or have ever been. He is a complete back running wise though.

He really reminds me of Clinton Portis similar running styles both are patient and always trying to push the run to the outside setup and follow blockers well.

Yeah but that combine had a 7.27 3 cone which is not good, a bad shuttle time and a fairly bad broad jump.

A better Jamaal Charles would have to murder someone to still be on the board at this juncture.

A lot of running backs don't even do those drills, because they aren't that important to the position. When you evaluate players it should be 95% game tape/5% combine numbers . Jamaal Charles was a 3rd rounder btw

Running back is the one position that I just cant figure out when it comes to looking at tape. Its a very complex thing except in cases where a guy is obviously too slow. You have to put a ton of time to do that kind of thing and watching 4 of Cook's games gives me nothing because his olines do some serious work.

He takes a lot of punishment though. It's the kind of impact that has crippled many big backs.

I'm not impressed by big runs where a back uses speed to go untouched. I look for vision, balance, cutting ability, agility, being tough to bring down AND speed.

Yeah but evaluating game tape isn't something most do well. Cook is a prime example, everyone raved about what a stud. You saw it everywhere. However you look at all his big runs and it has one thing in common. Pulling the guard to seal the DE or at least have a double team going, leaving a Cook to beat the LB to the outside for huge gains. Now Cook ran this play very well, slowing down when necessary to force the LB to commit one way or the other. Mostly all he wanted was to not let the LB cheat to the outside, because all things being equal he could easily beat a LB in a foot race. He was good at this play and why not, the Seminles ran this play over and over with some variations. Played to his 40 yard dash speed, he never had to duke a tackler, just get in a foot race with a LB and if the LB cheated to much to the outside, cut it back to the inside, where he still had the edge.
Cook doesn't make tacklers miss and he not all that powerful, he is good at giving them a leg and having tacklers slide off because they can't get a grip, but it's not power, just a bit of finesse.
