Here's a name today that's a blast from the past.

Syracuse football recruiting: 2018 WR Kevin Johnson Jr. enrolling early

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Class of 2018 wide receiver Kevin Johnson Jr. is enrolled at Syracuse for the upcoming semester, he said via Twitter direct message Thursday evening.

"It's a dream come true and I always knew I would bleed orange and blue," Johnson Jr. said. "The decision was easier than most would think. Syracuse is one of the most prestigious universities in the country and the history in incomparable. In addition, you can't pass down the academics that 'Cuse has to offer. It's an all-around great school."

SU missed out on Sampson who re-opened his recruitment. Damn....the man would have been a stud.

Syracuse football recruiting: How many more 2018 recruits will Dino Babers sign?

Babers' second full recruiting haul in Central New York is on pace to be among the highest rated SU has brought in during the modern rankings era. It currently stacks up eighth in the Atlantic Coast Conference and 46th in the nation. Three of the team's signees are listed among the 247Sports.com composite ranking's Top 500 prospects -- offensive tackle Qadir White (383), wide receiver Edward Hendrix (454) and athlete Trill Willims (498).

Looking at who may round out the Orange's class, four players are publicly pledged to SU: running backs Jawhar Jordan and Akeem Dixon, linebacker Ja'Qurius Smith and wide receiver Kevin Johnson Jr. Another running back, four-star talent Mychale Salahuddin, has Syracuse in his Top 4 and plans to take an official visit the weekend of Jan. 19.

A very cool pickup. Assuming Devito will be the backup next year, he's still going to have someone on the 2nd team that's gonna light it up. Practices have been turned up a notch.

Former Michigan State starting WR Trishton Jackson announces he will transfer to Syracuse

Jackson is listed as a sophomore on Michigan State's roster, meaning he will have to sit out a season but then would have two years of eligibility at Syracuse.

At 6-foot-1 and 179 pounds, Jackson played for Michigan State as a true freshman and sophomore, and even opened this year as a starter for the Spartans. He started the first four games and played in 12 of 13. He finished the year with 12 catches for 143 yards.

Jackson eventually lost the starting job to true freshman Cody White. Michigan State's entire wide receiving group is eligible to return next year, creating a fierce competition for playing time in 2018.

According to Michigan State's athletic department website, Jackson led all receivers with eight catches for 168 yards in the school's spring game. He was ranked among the country's 250 best prospects by both Scout and 247 Sports when he came out of high school as part of the Class of 2016.

Syracuse football 2018 schedule released (dates)

    SEPT. 1 AT WESTERN MICHIGAN
Syracuse will open the season in an opponent's home stadium for the first time since 2010, when the Orange played at Akron.

This is the first game of a home-and-home series, with the Broncos coming to the Carrier Dome in 2019.

Western Michigan is coached by former Syracuse offensive coordinator Tim Lester. Former assistants Tim Daoust and Jake Moreland are on Lester's staff.

And defensive lineman Steven Clark is a senior at WMU after transferring there in the wake of a medical DQ decision at SU.

Western Michigan finished 6-6 last season.

    SEPT. 8 VS. WAGNER
Syracuse has continued to follow its scheduling philosophy of playing an FCS game.

The home opener will be against Wagner, which last visited the Carrier Dome in 2013 and left with a 54-0 loss in a game in which Terrel Hunt seized the starting quarterback job.

    SEPT. 15 VS. FLORIDA STATE
The biggest offseason story in the ACC was Jimbo Fisher's resignation at Florida State to accept a massive contract at Texas A&M.

FSU filled its vacancy with former Oregon coach Willie Taggart, who found success at South Florida and has gradually mixed more of the spread concepts Babers' offense uses with the smash-mouth style he learned serving as an assistant under Jim Harbaugh.

Florida State was the most disappointing team in the nation last season, but its roster is still stacked with talent.

    SEPT. 22 VS. CONNECTICUT
Syracuse traveled to UConn in Dino Babers' first season and walked away with a 31-24 victory.

Since then the Huskies fired Bob Diaco and hired the coach who raised the program to unprecedented heights: former SU assistant Randy Edsall.

The Huskies finished 3-9 in Edsall's first season. They lost OC Rhett Lashlee to SMU and replaced him with John Dunn, a former assistant with the Chicago Bears.

    SEPT. 29 AT CLEMSON
Maybe the second-biggest storyline in the ACC this offseason is Clemson positioning itself for another national title run with the return of its uber-talented defensive front.

Defensive linemen Clelin Ferrell, Austin Bryant and Christian Wilkins bypassed the NFL Draft to return to Clemson, along with linebacker Kendall Joseph.

Clemson has plenty of offensive talent (and returned All-ACC left tackle Mitch Hyatt for his senior year, too.)

They join Dexter Lawrence, a junior who was hampered by injuries last year but drips with pro potential right up there with Houston's Ed Oliver.

The Tigers are going to be runaway favorites to win the ACC and return to the College Football Playoff, and I bet they remember the L they took at Syracuse last fall when the Orange visits Death Valley.

    OCT. 6 AT PITTSBURGH
Syracuse snapped a four-game losing streak against its Northeast rival this past season and will look this year to find a victory at Pitt for the first time since 2001.

Pitt found its quarterback late last season as Kenny Pickett led the Panthers to an upset victory against then-No. 2 Miami (Fla.).

    OCT. 13 BYE WEEK

    OCT. 20 VS. NORTH CAROLINA
Syracuse caught a tough break running into Miami (Fla.) last season as its rotating crossover opponent from the Coastal Division.

In fact, Syracuse has drawn the Coastal champion in each of Dino Babers' first two years at SU.

Maybe that's good luck for North Carolina, which deserves a little bit of it after the injury misfortune it endured last season.

OCT. 27 VS. NORTH CAROLINA STATE
North Carolina State returns one of the steadiest quarterbacks in the conference in Ryan Finley. The exceptional pieces around Finley that helped lift it into the Top 25 this season mostly need to be replaced, including Jaylen Samuels and Nyheim Hines.

The great defensive front headlined by Bradley Chubb will need to be retooled as well.

    NOV. 3 AT WAKE FOREST
Wake Forest became one of the surprise teams in the ACC last season thanks to the sensational play of quarterback John Wolford, who probably would have won the conference's offensive player of the year award if Lamar Jackson wasn't around.

Alas, Wolford is gone and will be a major hole for Dave Clawson to fill.

    NOV. 9 VS. LOUISVILLE (FRIDAY)
Syracuse and the rest of the ACC breathed a sigh of relief with the news that Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson would forego his senior season and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

Jackson torched the SU defense for the last two seasons, but Bobby Petrino has a former four-star recruit in Jawon Pass waiting in the wings.

Louisville still has exceptional skill talent, but it loses a generational talent in Jackson.

NOV. 17 VS. NOTRE DAME (YANKEE STADIUM)

Syracuse was set to make its first visit to South Bend, Ind. since 2008.

Then the Irish called an audible and moved the game to Yankee Stadium in New York as part of its Shamrock Series.

The trip should be easier for SU fans to make in mid-November, but it takes a road trip to one of college football's most storied stadiums off the table (until 2025, at the earliest).

This will be Syracuse football's first game at Yankee Stadium since the 2012 Pinstripe Bowl.

    NOV. 24 AT BOSTON COLLEGE
Boston College found an offensive identity in the middle of the last season, and its young backfield of Anthony Brown and AJ Dillon will cause problems for ACC defenses (but also won't be sneaking up on any defensive coordinators this season).

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Lakeland High School (Fla.) linebacker Ja'Qurius Smith has decommitted from Syracuse football's 2018 recruiting class.

Want to announce my decommit from the University of Syracuse

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 194-pound three-star prospect had committed to the Orange last May.

Former 4-star RB Abdul Adams transfers to Syracuse football from Oklahoma

Syracuse, N.Y. -- Running back Abdul Adams has transferred to Syracuse football from Oklahoma, SU Athletics announced on Monday.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Adams rushed for 825 yards and a touchdown on 112 carries as a Sooner. He also caught eight passes for 103 yards and a score.

Before that, Adams starred for Hillside (Durham, N.C.) High School as a senior and finished his recruitment rated four stars and the No. 15 running back in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He was offered by Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame and Miami, among others, in addition to OU.

Syracuse football recruiting: 3-Star Mississippi RB Jarveon Howard commits

The 5-foot-10, 202-pound Howard is rated three stars and the No. 35 running back this cycle by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He was also offered by Tennessee, Mississippi State and Southern Miss, among others, and drew additional heavy Power-5 interest following a senior year in which he rushed for more than 1,500 yards and 21 touchdowns on 118 carries, per MaxPreps.com.

Akeem Dixon was on the original list in the op but was unalbe to sign evidently due to accademics. The link has more details. I wish the young man the best of luck at SU.

3-star RB Akeem Dixon set to sign with Syracuse football after strong academic semester

The 6-foot, 210-pound Dixon is rated three stars and the No. 74 running back in the Class of 2018 by 247Sports.com's composite rankings. He committed to SU in May and has also been offered scholarships by Louisville and Purdue.

A four-year starter at Vero Beach, Dixon rushed for 1,400 yards and 22 touchdowns on 204 carries this fall, per MaxPreps.com. He racked up more than 4,000 all-purpose yards and 59 touchdowns over his career.

Dixon's official visit to Syracuse in January, as well as a recent in-home visit from head coach Dino Babers, have paved the way toward signing.

"He's never wavered from Syracuse," Jankowski said of Dixon. "He's been Syracuse through and through."
