Me and the guys
Damn you @broncosmitty i had nothing to do with milk stealing your guy...
Houston, we have confirmation on Smitty reaching in the second round....@ehb5 just picked but Chapman is gone...
That's a great pick @Pack 500 . That's who I was going to take if I had traded for another WC. 2nd best pitcher ever
I agree with that there being several in their class, though I personally rank them 1-2. Koufax, Clemens, Gibson, Big Unit, all truly dominant guysI don't know if I agree that he is the 2nd best pitcher ever... But he sure is one of the top 10... I still look down upon the period he played in, BUT you can not dismiss his stats... I just think there is a bunch of pitchers in the same league as both Walter Johnson and Mathewson...

I would disagree, and use this draft as evidence. The modern players at the top of this draft are certainly not better than the best players if the past, and once you get past the top 3-4 at each position, the bottom falls out from mediocre to pitifulit is clearly easier to compare modern day baseball players... But you cant ignore yesteryear players... But I do think we over-rate them a lot...
I think 500 said it and I agree with him(if it was him who said it), yester year greats would be great no matter what era they played in BUT the average player back then was very weak... What this does is helps pad their stats...

Again, you are proving my point. In your previous post, you said ''the average player was weak''...I'm saying the same thing about today's average player. I see no difference at allhuh?? How many greats do you think are in a generation?? AROD, Pujols and Miggy are already greats that can be compared to any other generational greats... the we got the young guns who may become that level too... If you pulled out any single year I am sure there is no more than 6 already HOFers and a few COULD BEs...

Exactly. We are drafting elite players. The level of talent in baseball is not greater now than it was 100 years ago. Athletes are better yes, which is why the sports of football and basketball have changed so drastically. Baseball is a skill sport. The only thing that can make you a great hitter is thousands upon thousands of reps with great mechanics, otherwise, even the greatest athlete in the world can't hit a baseball. Ask Michael Jordan. The reason the players of yesterday were better is simple IMO. They played the game more, they practiced more, from childhood up. Kids today..for the most part...will go work out at the gym, go throw a little and hit a bucket or two...then go play Call of Duty for 4 hours. Back in the day, baseball WAS the video games of today, it's how kids had fun, and the best athletes in the world played baseball, as the NFL and NBA weren't taking the best of the bestBut we are not drafting the average players of back then... If we changed the date of this draft to 1915, do you think we would be getting as good teams as we are??
