Yeah very nice. Also another good sign (for his health) is seeing McCutchen running on the bases again getting a stolen base in both games.

Hopefully they will score some runs for Happ in game 2.

^Yep and that wildcard game will be a fun one to watch since both teams match up well against each other.

Man is Arrieta tough, I don't know how you beat him. Maybe get guys in there that can work the count, and don't strike out much to get his pitch count up, and out of the game.

Dammit. Arrieta/Rizzo exchanges to blame for both runs scoring.

Terrific baserunning by Pedro to get the 2nd run in.

Also, his beard is glorious.

Arrieta might be one of those pitchers you either have to wear out, like you said, or just pray you get lucky against. Everything is just so sharp from him.

I hate that you can take out a guy making the turn at 2nd, one of the dumbest rules in the game.

Why not just dive into the legs of the first basemen, I mean, you could still theoretically touch the base at the same time, so not dirty right?

Coghlan should have worn 95 in the back the next inning.

With the front foot planted, it's such a vulnerable position. It's honestly probably more dangerous for that reason than the collisions at the plate were.

At the very least, when you do it, your legs need to be down, not up at the knee. If you slide with your legs down, you'll probably just trip the guy. Slide with them up, and you get what happened to Kang. Coghlan's leg was up just under the kneecap. That's too high.

Honestly, I don't even want to debate the merits of the specific slide, it's dangerous no matter how you attempt to take another player out, it shouldn't be legal to take out anyone making the turn. You have a right to the base, and that's it.

Fuck Chris Coghlan, fuck the useless union, and fuck the MLB for still allowing such garbage.

Yeah, I mean, if you'd have to regulate a slide to the point of leg height, it's best to just take it out of the game anyway. When a rule because too specific to even enforce it, something else has to be done.

For me it's the same argument as the home plate collisions argument. At no other base can you tackle the fielder to get him to drop the ball, or can a fielder put his whole body between the runner and the base to keep him from getting there, so why home plate? Here, under no other circumstance can you take out a fielder trying to make a throw, why at second base on the turn? It's an inconsistency in the rules.

Joe Maddon said he thought Kang had 'plantar fascitis' after the game, what a douche.
