Figure we should have a thread for this one
Salary Cap and pooling media rights among Conferences are both Communism.
"....option to pool media rights among all conferences"
It means taking money from the B1G and SEC to give to the small frye."....option to pool media rights among all conferences"
Any network sports professionals here? What does that even mean? I think I get what it means/intends from a God's eye view, but who has the "option," the conferences or the entities who own team/league broadcast rights?
My guess is all conferences would love to have their games shown in geographical areas outside their footprint. That would mean more exposure, beneficial in both recruiting and rousting alumi for donations. Networks and advertisers who've spent years cultivating associations/tie-ins regional are bound to be less enthusiastic. Zaxby ads shown in MWC country where there are no Zaxbys?
Doesn't this exist to some degree already? I know on any given Saturday, I see B10 games on multiple networks, even their least desirable games like Ball St @ Purdue are on BTN.
Believe it or not, a lot of ads are placed at a local/regional level."....option to pool media rights among all conferences"

There is also this possibility. It would further the growing sentiment that the SEC and/or B1G would strike out on their own, either separate or combined. It means taking money from the B1G and SEC to give to the small frye.
Pass.
Know about and understand regional v national advertising, but no business is going to pay for advertising where they neither have current business interest or a plan to do business.Believe it or not, a lot of ads are placed at a local/regional level.
That might create an opportunity for regional companies like Zaxbys, and I am sure there are others like In and Out, Menards, etc to purchase more ads, and perhaps a better chance for other regional groups (like DMAs for specific city regions) to put them out.
Also, this might create more desire for companies to advertise on streaming platforms, where it is typically a lot of empty ad space. If a regional game is getting national exposure, that would certainly lead to more interest from a national platform or two.

You know that's what they mean. "pool media rights"? What would they be pooling them for? The B1G and SEC are alright Jack. They get all the exposure and the money they need. The ones who are crying are those being left in the dust.....those who don't have much of an audience and thus don't get such lucrative TV deals. You have a source for that? "Rights" and "revenue sharing" don't necessarily mean the same thing.
No, I don't. That's why I asked. You know that's what they mean. "pool media rights"? What would they be pooling them for? The B1G and SEC are alright Jack. "Big casino" threat that I've heard going back to at least the 1970s with CFA. I'm no fan of the NCAA, but as long as the Association exists, can't see this happening. Dissolve the NCAA, then things could get interesting. There is also this possibility. It would further the growing sentiment that the SEC and/or B1G would strike out on their own, either separate or combined.
