This team is better than last year's, has a brighter future, more talent in the AHL, and a better grip on the future cap (except maybe in net down the line). All by trading away the two young cornerstones on this team.
How many career years did we see this season? As well as all hte rookies (12 at a time) playing out there.
And he overcame the loss of his HOF defenseman without much of a blip. NOt bad...

Couldn't agree more PR. I thought he has done a masterful job of redesigning a team that was sorely in need of an identity change. We all hate these goddamn NTC's & Bryz's contract length, but still...

All things considered, it's been an incredible year.

5th overall in points (103)
Best road record in the Nhl (25-12-3)
Third most goals scored overall (262)
Most power play goals scored (65)
Led the Nhl in rookie scoring (126)

All of this accomplished while far and away leading the league in penalty minutes (1282). Thanks to Rinaldo, Hartnell, Simmonds and Sestito, who led that charge...lol

We've had way more injuries to deal with this season than last season. We dressed 12 rookies at one time or another, often 6 to 8 of them per game and still were able to come from behind and beat a desperate Buffalo team last night with none other than two of our rookies netting the goals.

I think it's easy to overlook how bright of a future our Flyers have ahead of them thanks to Homer this past offseason. With players like Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, Schenn, Wellwood, Rinaldo, MAB, Gustafsson and more all 25 and younger (many of them much younger), there is a very strong, talented, youthful core that will only get better from year to year.

I feel like we've done what is really tough to do in the Nhl today. We positioned ourselves firmly in the playoffs, loaded up for a Cup run AND we built for the future. That's what everyone wants to do. Have a strong team now, then very likely a much better team in the near/distant future. We've done that in Philadelphia. Not everyone may see it yet, but it's in the works. Next year this team is going to be something special. You heard it here first.

Yeah, Homer has really done a great job. I could see him winning GM of the year. This team is so young, they are built to be good for a very long time. They will be scary in about 2-3 years.

The 2 trades of Carter and Richards were steals.

Simmonds is arguably the same to equal player that Richards is. The guy scores, fights, hits and does all the dirty work. Yes Richards did as well but not all the time. Ill take Simmonds over him. Now you add Shenn and the upside he has.... the trade is a landslide win for the FLyers

Carter for Vorachek and Couts... ANother blowout win for The Flyers. Vorachek is turning out to be a heck of a player. Amazing speed good touch and has grit as well. Couts.. well this guy IMO is going to be a very special player. FOr a 19 year old to be playing the role he has been playing and playing it very well is very very encouraging. We also cannot forget this guy LED the Quebec league last season in scoring. His scoring touch will come and he will be a complete player.

Also the pickup of Matt Read, the play of Rinaldo,Bourdon and even Sestito when he was healthy.

To have this youth and still be a cup contender makes me a very very happy Philadelphia FLyers fan. Way to go Homer

You guys pretty much said it but how about the Grossman kubina trades without those guys this team would be sunk. He beat every other team to the punch gm of the year for sure.

It's pretty ironic that Simmonds went on to score 28 goals and badly outplay Richie head to head this season, which only makes Homer look like that much more of a genius considering he also got Schenn and a pick in that deal. So, not only has Simmonds performed better and been healthier, he's 4 years younger and Schenn is only 20 himself and really starting to get it going.

Meanwhile Carter has been injured for much of the season and Voracek has statistically outplayed him too. 49 points in 77 games for a guy that only gets 16:17 per game and is 22 years old is pretty damn decent. Voracek has only gotten better as the season has progressed too. He's got 10 points in his last 6 games. Stretch his production over the last month across an entire season and he'd have 88 points. Couturier has somehow worked his way into the role of our top shutdown center as a 19 year old. WTF!?! Words cannot explain how impressive that is.

Matt Ford

more credit for homer.. i know you guys dont care a lot about the phantoms, but the guy they got at the trade deadline (for marshall) has 21 goals and 8 assists in 27.6 games (still a period to go in the 28th) with the team

he's single-handedly trying to get the phantoms in the playoffs.. thought he deserved some recognition.
