John Chayka will be named GM of ARI tomorrow. Promoted from asst GM, Chayka turns 27 on June 9. Head coach Dave Tippett expanded role.

Damn it, I wanted that job :D

Wait...whaaaaa?

You are 26 AND F???

Would you please change that avi, I swear I thought you were a bearded dude.

I look just like MY pic

Hahahahahahahaha, honestly I enjoy the reactions when people find out I'm a lady (that's right, I'm a lady damnit *spits*). All the guys on here are great to me, but in a case where a stranger wanders in it actually helps breed intelligent conversation when people assume I'm another guy. And I'm only 25, so, I have like 8 months to take over a professional franchise.

Yeah, my profile pic depicts me as well.

So this guy is an analytics guy and he's going to be in charge of deciding who they pick up. This could be fun. At the trade deadline, he'll decide he'll need a guy with +.04% Conflagration score and a positive Hernorfal Index who has no worse than a -6 even strength Williburton on Sundays during a neap tide.

"The Phoenix Coyotes have announced they have talked Donald Brashear out of retirement."

THE NUMBERS DON'T LIE

Seriously. Neap Tide. Phoenix is in the desert. Irrelevant data.

Valid analysis for the 'Nucks though.

I really would have thought Lawrence Gilman would have gotten the yotes gm job and Chayka would be his assistant ... Gilman has great contract negotiation experience and Chayka doesnt (he assisted Gilman on that front with the canucks) ... i guess this will be the NHL version of Theo Epstein :noidea:

If you dismiss any data point, you might miss an IMPORTANT TREND.

Yes, I work with big data guys. They don't know what to do with me. Occasionally I will ask them really obnoxious questions like "how does expanding populations of newts affect this conclusion?"

And yes, I have said "neap tide" to them.

that was interesting stuff mentioned by BobMac in the cesspool abut this Chayka kid ... no one in the fancy stats community knows his work because he has kept everything private/proprietary ... He owned a statistics company that compiled their own hockey data ... versus just about everybody in the fancy stats community who relied on the data compiled by nhl and their game reports

cesspool hosts (not BobMac) also took a healthy shot at "that self promoting blogger hired by edmonton" lol

I should state for the record that I don't inherently hate advanced stats or big data. But I am an investigator and when you put too much stock in any one component of the "whole story", you tend to miss important things.

So is there some indication that this statement applies to Chayka?

He's a data guy. And I lampooned him, insinuating that he might trade for guys based on strictly numbers, with hilarious consequences.
