He was never going to play either. Some guy just said he should be spiderman and people lost their minds. Glover jokes about it in a stand-up special. He was never in line for anything as far as I know.

My point being, I don't give two flying fucks what the race is.... Jim Hammond (Human Torch) was white in the comics and I didn't care who they cast... Let's be clear here, YOU brought up race and clearly care about an Asian actor playing the role.

no reason to do that here. Why cast a white dude in a role that clearly isn't a white character?

They wanted him for the role in the Andrew Garfield version, so unless they wanted a complete rewrite of the script....no. It was not even a real rumor, it was a dude on Tumblr stating Glover should be in the movie, and it blew up some how.

Near impossible to remake. Unless a movie gets like a Marvel movie budget it could be near impossible.

I think Death note could have been done as a live-action, they just did a trash job. I did not hate the live-action remake of full metal alchemist, did not really like it either.

I didn't think Ghost in the Shell was too bad, but again that is mostly sci fi.

Someone in the thread earlier mentioned Trigun, which I think could be done very well. The over the top actions of Vash would be a bit of a struggle, but desert wasteland with some advanced tech would be easy enough.

I love em, but live-action has always been done pretty poorly as we have covered in the thread. The highest praise we have so far is "decent" never really that great.

I think it is coming eventually. With the wild success of the marvel movies, and how anime is completely crushing comics in sales right now, it is only a matter of time until real money gets thrown at it. We have only really gone over scifi ones. Berserk, Demon Slayer, or Vampire Hunter D could be made into good live action.

My opinion about white washing characters is a little different...

you should only change race/sex or whatever on any MAIN character:

1. If there is an actor/actress that has a big name that would get people to see it just because they are in it
2. there are no similar status actor/actress of the correct appearance
3. the change in appearance does not affect the actual story

thats where dragon ball went so wrong... they used no named white actors/actresses... you cant do that...

Like someone said earlier these live actions it never seems to work out. I can't actually think of any anime that turned live action that was actually decent. I think a big reason why is that in these TV series they have so many shows to build character development and tell a story. How will they set that base because all 5 of those characters have unique backgrounds (even the dog) of how they came together there is no way to set that stage in 1 hour and 20 minutes or however long the movie is.
