Main cast announced for Netflix's upcoming live-action TV series adaptation of the classic anime series.

If you're not familiar with the series, think of it as future bounty hunter space Western with a jazz motif.

- John Cho as Spike Spiegel
- Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black
- Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine
- Alex Hassell as Vicious

Edward "Ed" Wong, the remaining main character (well, besides the dog Ein), has not yet been cast.

Live action adaptations of anime typically aren't good. And a little disappointed Keanu didn't make it as Spike. Too old maybe?

Love the original show, probably my favorite anime even though it's not my thing really.

But I will be surprised if this is good. Hope it is.

Spike is not white. That would have been terrible casting.

Plus Keanu is already doing the John Wick thing. He doesn't need to be pigeonholed into every action star role out there where the main character is a skinny dude

I think it will look good. I am looking forward to it.

this isn't some supernatural Dragonball Z shit, which was shown to be a failure of a live adaptation. This is just science fiction like Blade Runner.

Spike is not white. That would have been terrible casting.

Plus Keanu is already doing the John Wick thing. He doesn't need to be pigeonholed into every action star role out there where the main character is a skinny dude

Keanu is also quite a bit too old, tbh, and maybe a bit too high strung in most of his roles.

I would've loved to see them try to take a good anime and make it better and modernize it a bit. Stuff like Trigun is not animated all that well. Or Outlaw Star is something that has some stuff that wouldn't translate the best into modern TV but also has a cool universe. Cowboy Bebop? Has no where to go but down imo.

The quality of Trigun's animation was really inconsistent IIRC.

I believe he is talking about the time it was rumored Donald Glover was going to be the next Peter Parker and people lost their shit. Not Miles Morales. Still not a great take though.

I don't even think he was ever actually in the running for it, someone online said he should be and it snowballed from there.

and it's funny that he is getting mad about a black guy playing Peter Parker but can't get why having a white guy play Spike isn't right.

He was never going to play either. Some guy just said he should be spiderman and people lost their minds. Glover jokes about it in a stand-up special. He was never in line for anything as far as I know.
