what self respecting well established nfl coach will go to the skins after shannahan? no one. Washington is the new Oakland. Isn't Shannahan like the 8th or 9th 'skins coach in 15 years under Snyder, that alone is pretty telling

I believe there are several Coachs that would love to move up from the cordinator position to the big chair.....and I expect we get 1 of those young and hungry guys!!!

I'm all over the board about this crazy situation going on in DC. After listening to pressers from Cousins, Griff and Shanny, I'm more confused than ever as to how this is all going to play out for the franchise.

All I DO know, is that I'm going to root for my team to prevail through this insanity, and wish the best for whoever is QBing this Sunday. Go Capt Kirk.

Said it on ESPN boards last year and said it here too many times,RG3 was more hype than substance and would not last four years as a starting QB if that.

Cousins is better IMO anyways :noidea:

I agree.....I think RG-3 has had his moment in the sun and Shanny is tired of watching him fail at his expense...
He wants to show the next team he coaches that he still knows how to win when given players that will work in his system....Run away Griffin is not a fit for him....Good bye Redskins, Hello Texans, if he wins with Kirk...

All it takes is one more, just one injury to RG3 and he will be done as a QB in the NFL and i am not even talking something major here because due to past injury's it will not take much of one before he is forced to hang up his cleats.

He is too much a runner QB,great athlete, fast etc but not made for pro football at QB getting hit all the time imo, look at his hips they curve outward and that screams leg injury prone to me.

Cousins is just a game manager, RG3 had/has way more talent. Coming into the NFL the concern, or one of the concerns was if he could stay in one piece playing with the big boys. He hasn't and it's as much his fault as anyone else. He took a lot stupid hits for very little gain. Say what you will about Kaep or Wilson they know how to avoid those hits and do.

The big question about RG3, is can he get back to what he was. Nobody knows yet. This whole circus in Washington isn't going to help him at all. Just glad that it's not my team going thru this chaos at the QB position.

I believe you would be wrong.....thing is Shannahan has final Authority on the players, and the draft..It is in his contract....If Danny says we need RG and you have to get him....and Mike didnt want him...he looks at danny and says.....Go F**K yourself.....I have final say and will do what I feel is in the best interest of this team as long as I am coach and GM..you dont like it...Fire me...pay me my 20 Miliion and do what you want.....

Shannahan was coming off 2 terrible losing seasons, a failed Mcnabb experiement, he needed to win and win right away...He sees a dynamic, QB prospect just sitting there....and HE made that trade on his own, with the plan in year 1...build an offense to suit his talents....and in offseason, start to work with him to make him a better qb......Injury changed it all.......The injury which the coach should have pulled him from a playoff game, but wasnt looking at the kids big picture....he wanted that playoff win...needed it to prove he can with without elway......

No It was all Mike!!!

You make some good points but if you go back in time...RG3 was plan B...Peyton Manning was clearly plan A...it made sense for a HC needing to win now. Once that fizzled I think the FO mindset was still on getting a franchise QB...the more pro ready guy was locked in to IND, RG3 was the next best option.

HC under pressure to win now is not likely to go with a rookie QB. I think it was a FO decision and the rest of your post about building an OFC to suit was to get the most production the quickest and work back toward a pro style OFC and the injury...I do believe.

A HC even with his personnel power just don't make those kinds of moves...that's a what-will-it-take-to-get- this-done, top down decision I think.

This isn't a smart for the long term future of the Redskins move. As another poster mentioned, if the Redskins win the rest of their games and Cousins plays well how can they go back to him? It's already a messy situation, and it's only going to get messier.

If Shanahan goes, does Cousins also go? I think Cousins would have to go as well, while RG3 may not consider Kirk Cousins competition, any success Cousins has makes teammates and fans think why not Cousins. That's a toxic situation for RG3, and it would be a toxic situation for a new coach to enter in to.

To anyone who thinks Cousins is better, you realize he's had 1 good game, right? The rest of his playing time he's been average to subpar and actually turns the ball over quite a bit. It's a small sample size but you certainly can't say he's a better QB based on what little he's shown so far. You might as well just say you hate RG3.

About the move, I see positives in both sides. Best case scenario is Cousins is competent and WSH can get a decent Day 2 pick for him. Personally I'd keep playing RG3. He's healthy (by December football standards) and he desperately needs the reps. Offseason training is crucially important but there's no duplicating live game action.

lol at these threads, C'mon guys we have no defense, are recovering from a 2-yr cap penalty and a messy situation between a cocky 2nd year QB and headstrong coach. Robert had an amazing rookie season, and obviously came back too soon, I think next year will determine if he's really a bust or not. Hopefully then he'll have a REAL right tackle and can throw to Garcon and Reed, and Kyle or whoever will stop calling 10-14 run plays for Alfred Morris.

when I 1st heard of this as a rumor. I thought WTF. Makes no sense on so many levels. Then I heard Shanny press conf. so now I still have no clue why they are doing this, but I have a different spin on what could be happening, maybe ppl should consider.

Shanny is definitely out next year. After hearing how he was in the press conf. I have no doubt of this.
It very well could have come from above to bench RGIII for the next coach next year, as the skins have given up on this season. Very well could be the FO saying to park their sports car for the remainder of the season.

Just another thought on how this could have spun. I like looking at all angles.

Even if this scenario is true. I still don't think this makes any sense at all. RGIII could use more time in the drivers seat for exp.
He's not gonna get better on the sidelines.

The plan is cousins lights it up and you get a 1st round pick for him. RGIII isn't going anywhere, the large black community in DC would go cray!!

I really hope that means you want more run plays called for Morris. Outside of Peterson, he's arguably the best RB going right now. Certainly the most consistent. No excuse for him not to have 20+ touches every game

that's why I said "self respecting, well established coach", was implying someone with head coach experience...the only folks who will be okay with being the owner and qb's lap dog is someone new to the game, then they will get frustrated with their lack of control and leave/be fired and it will be on to coach #10 in the Snyder era

I'm not so sure the FO isn't behind this...forget about QB controversy...everyone knows the investment made to get RG3...he's going to be the QB in a WAS...imo if he doesn't sign a 2nd contract in WAS many will think this was the worst trade in NFL history.

The reality imo is this...last yr was fools gold...the team around RG3 (more so in front) is not as good as they thought. M.Shan wants out, and I think that will happen...I can see David Shaw from Stanford in WAS next yr if he wants to come to the NFL. Because of the draft picks going to STL...the Skins really need to get 2 players in the top 50 from this draft and the best asset to leverage is Cousins.

Imo...one you get past Bridgewater, Carr, and Bortles...the next tier guys are McCarron, Manziel and 2 guys coming off ACL, in Mettenberg and Aaron Murray. If you're CLE, (with two 1st rd picks) a 2nd rd pick for Cousins might look pretty good to give WAS two high 2nd rd picks...if he goes 3-0...who knows, CLE might give the later 1st rd...plus HOU and MIN might miss out on the top 3 QBs from the draft.

Good move.

well the Vikes will always hold that distinction. But it would rank way up there.
