A coach saying goodbye before he's officially fired is certainly rare, that's for sure. In Tiger Williams book, when he was with the Leafs, he wrote about Roger Nielsen having a feeling that he was coaching his last game with the Leafs in a game on the road against the Islanders (this is back in the day when Harold Ballard owned the Leafs). Sure enough, Nielsen was fired after a loss against the Isles.

And everything went good for the Leafs for years after they fired Roger.

/Bobby Clarke fired Nielsen for getting cancer. Somehow Ballard isn’t even the worst person to fire the guy lol

What really struck me is JT sitting there, alone, with no emotion on his face at the situation he pretty well created while the other players were elsewhere, together, waiting for Bruce to make his exit.
