do the Flames a solid...Some tweets from Bobby Mac

I do not believe CGY intends to buy out Kotalik. More like "we can now bury you in the minors, maybe you want to play in Europe instead?"

CGY cant afford to use valuable cap space on buyout. Aim is to find spot for Kotalik where he doesnt count against cap and someone else pays

Funny how KHL could be NHL team's best friend now that there are contracted players they are trying to move to offset costs/open up cap room

I don't understand. The NHL can trade players to the K?

No. The waive him, and demote him to the AHL.
in doing that, they encourage the player to 'quit' and go seek fame and fortune in Europe.

They can lend a player to a European team (like Nylander last year), but I don't know the details behind something like that.

Latest on Kotalik from Friedman:

One note about Kotalik: Flames did not put him on unconditional waivers, so he cannot be bought out. Maybe they will do it tomorrow...

Currently, it looks like the plan is to have him report to Abbotsford, or have him take his stick and puck to the KHL. Flames appear to be done with a forward that Sutter says was one of his best players down the stretch..lol

Well, Flames have drawn a line in the sand regarding Kotalik. We'll see how he reacts.
