Apparently the first tie breaker between teams is not conference championships or head to head but the name of your program.

Exactly. It's about money first if it's a close call. After all...this is a business. It's not a charity. The games aren't played for fun. ESPN isn't PBS.

True. It just goes to show that you get rewarded for losing only one game in a weaker conference.

The experts just made a great point here. If Penn State had played Portland State and spanked them in week two instead of losing a heartbreaker to Pitt, they would be 12-1 and automatically in the top four.

So, teams get rewarded for running the table against lesser teams.

bingo. you can say the same about OU. they would've been in if not for scheduling a hard OOC.

Is it just me or does Saban appear creepy when he looks into the camera while on the field interviews

I think that's a bit misleading too. I mean, Pitt also beat Clemson.

2-1 against the top 8 is another way to look at this in favor of PSU.

It's just a tough pill to swallow when you win the Championship of arguably the best conference and don't get in.

Also, I thought that PSU was 4-2 against the top 25 with wins against Temple, Iowa, Ohio State, and Wisconsin.

I think the bigger issue was Penn State went 2-2 against the top 25

Everyone else in contention has at least 3 top 25 wins, and at most only 1 loss

Isn't it really 4-2?

I think they got it right. Clemson moves up to 2 due to the conference champ. Washington stays in and Ohio State, based on their strength of schedule stayed in at 3.

There's 2 interesting things going on. A bunch of people will point to Washington's terrible OOC and cry foul that it's the Baylor route. But, they won their conference. 0-1 losses and a conference championship will get you in the CFP almost every time. So you might say this encourages more schools to play crappy OOC opponents.

On the flip side, Ohio State got in despite not winning their conference or even their division. First time in the young CFP history a non-champ has gotten in. This happened thanks to Ohio State beating OU on the road early in the season. So, their OOC is really what put Ohio State in the CFP...if they had Washington's OOC, they would likely be out and PSU would be in.

So, if your team is like the Ohio States, Alabamas, etc of the college football world, you can schedule harder non-conference games to bolster your chances. Even if you lose one of those games, there's a good shot at winning the conference and getting in. If you're more of a up and coming school, you might have to schedule in a way that maximizes your chances to go unbeaten in OOC and concentrate on winning your conference.

well if we can keep the other team from having as much success as we are experiencing then I like our chances in executing as well as we have in practice all week and our fans are the greatest hail satan.

I think you could argue that Pitt was about two field goals and a touchdown shy of supplanting Clemson in the top four...Lol

Or one score if you figure that they're getting to the ACC Championship game with a win over Virginia Tech to face Clemson, who they already beat.

I guess I am just pointing out how silly all of this shit is. We're not picking the current four best teams.
