Anyone here a good enough cap guru to know what we should land on in a contract with Jadaveon? IMO, he was the best player on the field tonight that wasn't a QB, and he's been consistently great every week he's been in the lineup (even without eye-popping numbers, for the most part). He's incredibly disruptive to the opponent's running game and does well (best on the team, sadly) at getting pressure on the QB. I'd be really disappointed if we can't figure out how to keep him.

So... what should it take?

We have a pretty good cap situation this year. I think we have to sign him. He's going to demand a good salary but maybe not quite the Frank Clark level because his sack/pressure numbers are not as good.

But I think he would be a great lynchpin on the defensive line.

His Pressure numbers are good, he was 4th in the league for pressure percentage, Shocking i know. I say it's going to be around 20 a year that he gets offered in Free agency. We will see if Seattle matches it.

Have to keep him, even if its clark money.

Another good DE on the other side and we could have a very good pass rush. Right now he is a one man team.

The guys only 26 so I say give him what he's looking for and add some needed pieces in the draft.

Apart of me would like to keep clowney but I would cringe at the idea of giving him a mega contract I'm sorry for a mega contract you have to give me more than just a high QB rush percentage. For a DE he is pretty good against the run but other than a couple of pressure he doesn't separate himself from other in the game that much to deserve a huge deal.

At the same time there are so many disappointments with this defense from our 1st round pick being a non factor, Jarran Reed, Green, Ansah, flowers etc we really need to find a new defensive coordinator Ken Norton from his time with the raiders to now shows that he isn't the right guy.

We need to bring Clowney back. He absolutely does a lot more than just get QB pressures. He's fantastic against the run and just overall very disruptive. He also plays a really physical brand of football that this defense has had a tough time replacing the last couple years. We got enough back in the Clark trade to justify paying Clowney the $ that would have gone to Clark.

Yeah. I did not want to spend the money on Clark. IMO, he was way too streaky and not nearly the complete player that Clowney is.

But we also need to bring someone in to man the other end that can get to the QB.

IMO, Reed never really got to the level he was last year. It will be interesting to see what the market prices him at.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting re-sign Clowney and declare our work done on the DL. He needs a partner on the other side for sure. I'm still not close to giving up on Collier, but we have to have both depth and insurance. Agreed on Reed -- showed some flashes after he was about 3 or 4 games into his season, but he didn't have the kind of year we hoped for sure. Maybe that means we have a better shot to bring him back, which would be great.

We are definitely set up pretty well. According to overthecap, we have $58M of effective cap space. Included in that number is only $822k of dead money, which is 10th lowest in the league. If Clowney is true to his word about only wanting to play for a contender, we should have a really good shot to bring him back and still have money left over to plug another hole or 2.

They need to get him locked up before FA starts. If he hits the market without a deal, I think it gets alot tougher

Not possible because he was playing this year on the franchise tag.

I understand that, but he's a free agent once the 2020 league year starts. I'm talking about that window between the start of the league year and free agency or whatever that legal tampering period is now.

If we aren't able to get him resigned then we'd get a 3rd round comp

He seemed to love the atmosphere so I would think Seattle is top 3 as long as they don't low ball him. FO should make a very hefty off to keep him here cause they really need him on that line.
