What you guys think of him last night? I know it was the final preseason game, but I think he showed enough to secure a spot on the team. The idea that Marion Grice or Kerwynn Williams would get a roster spot over him is ridiculous. Ellington, Johnson & Johnson (that has a ring to it)...I like it.

My guess is that it will be AE, CJ2K, DJ, Taylor, & Hughes that make the team. Kerwin & Grice are both PS eligible. Taylor pass blocks, catches & does a lot of the little things well including playing special teams. Hughes is the biggest back on the team, more H-back than anything. He is needed for the short yardage runs.

The only question I had in regards to CJ2K is did he still have his speed & burst. I think after seeing him in action, he looked quick. I see CJ2K getting 8-10 carries a game. He is a home run hitter more so than Ellington.

@johnson

By the way, Dockett just got cut by the Niners. It just hit the wire. I don't know if we will see a reunion or not. We are pretty stackedat De/DT, but he wants to play for the minimum while manning the NT in rotation with Gunter & Williams, I would be okay with it.

I guess I had this wrong... Looks like cutting Hughes opens the door for KW.

I like Williams. He has had a good camp and he seems to be the only back that has had consistent success running between the tackles.

Johnson looked solid last night. He still has the speed and cutback ability. There is no question he makes the team.

It was also nice to see Spoon getting some serious playing time. Those were crucial minuts for him considering he hasn't played since 2013.

Docket is getting $2 million from the Niners for not playing for them so he might be less demanding than usual about signing with AZ.

Interesting seeing Hughes cut. Good points on Taylor and makes sense why he wasn't.

Who is supposed to be the better blocking back in pass protection? AE, CJ, or Johnson?

CJ2K is probably the better pass blocking of the 3. AE is small & DJ is rookie who was missing blocks during the preseason.

And we traded for Matt Barkley. A conditional 7th, he has to be on the roster for 6 games. My guess could be that either they are going to try to get Thomas or Barkley to the PS. If Thomas doesn't get claimed & makes it to the PS, they could just cut Barkley. I guess it's insurance...

CJ was solid today. Loved a few of the blocks he had in pass protection.

I too was impressed. He stood in there well and saved Palmer from a few hits.

Solid performance both blocking and running. Him and DJ combined for right around 130 yards. In addition, we were able to run the ball at the end of the game.

Two weeks in a row with a credible running game. That's not enough to officially say they have a running attack back, but it's a darn good start.

If Ellington can get right the Cards will have a very dangerous backfield.

I think even if he doesn't and CJ and DJ stay healthy they will still be scary good. Loving that CJ seems on board with a tandem. His veteran legs will need a platoon approach, but guys that have been the guy aren't always open to that.

Go Cards!

I agree but everything I've read has either ignored or dismissed him even though he was the "best" RB on the team going into last season.

True, but that was before D Johnson got a chance to shine as a rookie and there were questions about CJ after being shot and getting up there in football years.

I hope you're right though. Ellington was a great receiving back coming out of the backfield. I"m not sure he blocks as well as the other two guys though?
